Warnings of False Teaching

1. Matthew 7:15 – 20: Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit. A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.

2. Matthew 24:4 – 12: And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you. For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many. And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places. All these are the beginning of sorrows. Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name’s sake. And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another. And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many. And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.

3. Matthew 24:24 – 27: For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall show great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect. Behold, I have told you before. Wherefore if they shall say unto you, Behold, he is in the desert; go not forth: behold, he is in the secret chambers; believe it not. For as the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.

4. Romans 1:20 – 22: For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness; Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath showed it unto them. For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,

5. 2 Corinthians 11:12 – 15: And what I do I will also continue to do, in order to deny an opportunity to those who want an opportunity to be recognized as our equals in what they boast about. For such boasters are false apostles, deceitful workers, disguising themselves as apostles of Christ. And no wonder! Even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. So it is not strange if his ministers also disguise themselves as ministers of righteousness. Their end will match their deeds.

6. Galatians 1:6 – 10: I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel: Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ. But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed. For do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ.

7. Ephesians 4:11 – 14: And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ: That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;

8. Ephesians 5:6 – 11: Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience. Be not ye therefore partakers with them. For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light: (For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth;) Proving what is acceptable unto the Lord. And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.

9. Colossians 2:4, 8 – 12: And this I say, lest any man should beguile you with enticing words. Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ. For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily. And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power:

In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ: Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead.

10. Colossians 2:18 – 19: Let no man beguile you of your reward in a voluntary humility and worshipping of angels, intruding into those things which he hath not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind, And not holding the Head, from which all the body by joints and bands having nourishment ministered, and knit together, increaseth with the increase of God.

11. 2 Thessalonians 2:1 – 4: Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him, That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand. Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God.

12. 1 Timothy 6:20 – 21: O Timothy, keep that which is committed to thy trust, avoiding profane and vain babblings, and oppositions of science falsely so called: Which some professing have erred concerning the faith.

13. 2 Timothy 3:1 – 7: This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts, Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.

14. 2 Timothy 3:12 – 14: Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.

But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived. But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them;

15. 2 Peter 1:16: For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of his majesty.

16. 2 Peter 1:20 – 2:3: Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost. But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction. And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of. And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not. For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment;

17. 1 John 4:1 – 3: Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world. Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God: And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.

18. Jude 1:3 – 4: Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints. For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ.

19. Revelation 16:12 – 14: And the sixth angel poured out his vial upon the great river Euphrates; and the water thereof was dried up, that the way of the kings of the east might be prepared. And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs come out of the mouth of the dragon, and out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet. For they are the spirits of devils, working miracles, which go forth unto the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty.

Note: A man is not to be judged a heretic for speaking or writing an error – we all fall into this group. A heretic is one who continues in teaching falsehoods that strike at the basics of Christian beliefs.

Joyce Meyer: “There is no choice of anyone going to heaven unless they believe this truth I am presenting. You cannot go to heaven unless you believe with all your heart that Jesus took your place in hell.” (The Most Important Decision You Will Ever Make, pg 36; Joyce Meyer)

Joel Osteen: “You can cancel out God’s plan by speaking negative words. God works by laws.” (Speaking Faith Filled Words, Tape # 223. Daystar Television, 2 May 2004)

T.D. Jakes: “Scripture teaches that receiving Christ as your personal Savior does not necessarily make you a son of God, but if you choose to do so, the power (authority) and right to do so is present.” (The Harvest, pgs 46 & 47; TD Jakes)

Robert Schuller: “I don’t think anything has been done in the name of Christ and under the banner of Christianity that has proven more destructive to human personality and, hence, counterproductive to the evangelism enterprise than the often crude, uncouth, and unchristian strategy of attempting to make people aware of their lost and sinful condition.” (Time magazine, 18 March 1985)

20. 1 Corinthians 1:18 – 25: For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God. For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent. Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the disputer of this world? hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world? For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe. For the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom: But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumblingblock, and unto the Greeks foolishness; But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God. Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men.

21. 1 Thessalonians 5:6 – 11: Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober. For they that sleep sleep in the night; and they that be drunken are drunken in the night. But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation. For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ, Who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him. Wherefore comfort yourselves together, and edify one another, even as also ye do.

Rise up O Men of God

Rise up O men of God

Have done with lesser things

Give heart and soul and mind and strength

To serve the King of Kings

Rise up O men of God

His kingdom tarries long

Bring in the day of brotherhood

And end the night of wrong

Rise up O men of God

The church of God doth wait

Her strength unequal to her task

Rise up and make her great

Lift high the cross of Christ

Tread where His feet have trod

As brothers of the Son of Man

Rise up O men of God

  5. Todd,

I consider those who preach any “Christ” who cannot save to be false teachers. The Arminian “Christ” is a false christ who wants to save but is unable. This is what Paul called “another gospel that is no gospel”. False teachers always have some works of mortal man required for their false salvation.

    ——————–

Theodore A. Jones – That statement cannot be rightly judged as a stand-alone sentence. Properly comprehended in its context, it is true – for it is the Word of God and not only the words of Paul. Those who have been given the righteousness of Christ are accounted as righteous for Christ perfectly kept the whole Law and the Holy Spirit empowers us to walk as obedient children – imperfectly until He comes again and judges all things and makes a new Earth and new Heaven.

    Of course it is true, now answer this question , is the following verse true or false;

For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners , so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.

  7. RE. todd3588,
I don’t think it makes any difference if a pastor of a “Christian” church is an Arminian or not. Anyone who teaches that the crucifixion of Jesus is a direct benefit rather than a unilaterial accountable sin caused by bloodsehd is a false teacher.

  8. Stuart,

I completely agree with your statement about preaching an “impotent Christ.” I concur as well that they are false teachers. It really is unfortunate to me, having been raised (as were my parents) attending an independant, fundamental Baptist church in Indiana, where it was communicated that God is sovereign, yet there was always an invitation at the end of the sermon, with the customary pleading for people to come forward to “get saved,” that I didn’t know anything else.

Then, in 1991, I married a wonderful girl, who I met at that same ‘indy, fundy’ church while attending college, who, by “chance” was raised in a Reformed Baptist church, and had quite a different view than me theologically. Wasn’t long after we were married that, through the Holy Spirit, my wife’s guidance, and my own study, that the Scriptures came alive. I saw the doctrines of grace CLEARLY taught in the Bible. I saw God’s sovereignty in everything (including salvation). I lost my ‘belief’ in luck and embraced God’s providence. Believing Reformed doctrine truly revolutionized my whole life.

I believe there are many solid preachers, although well-intentioned and sincere, and some, solid Christians (think Charles Stanley or Adrian Rodgers), who just aren’t / haven’t been exposed to those precious doctrines which revolutionized my life. Would I call them “ravenous wolves?” Hmmmm. Probably not. I would call them mis-informed or ill-informed, and I would not sit under their ministries.

Just a few rambling thoughts for a Thursday morning…

“,,,who hold the truth in unrighteousness,,,”-I’ve read this many times but it really stuck out as a highlight

this speaks so clearly to me of how people who are unregenerate treat the truth. It’s always their unrighteousness that twists, masticates, distorts, builds obfuscations. No matter how well they study God’s word, try and do good and behave, “they hold the truth in unrighteousness”

reminds me of this verse-“A man cannot be established through wickedness, but the righteous cannot be uprooted.”-Proverbs 12:3

A wicked murder by wicked people, the most evil act ever committed, determined before by God as the greatest gift for the greatest good. The ultimate triumph of good over evil, turning evil back on itself to bring the ultimate good.

And we are all guilty of His death, because it was for our sin, and we can be exonerated of even that horrible guilt by His just forgiveness, freely given.

Of course Jesus is NOT a servant of man – He’s God. Of course we’re all murderers from the heart. I’m not sure I’m following this whole thread/train of thought. 22. “It is not those who hear the law who are righteous in God’s sight, but it is those who obey the law who will be declared righteous.” Rom. 2:13
This statement by Paul is either true or entirely false. Which is it?

It is entirely true. All those who obey the Law will be declared righteous. Paul even says the same thing in the next chapter, saying, “there is none righteous, no not one” (Romans 3:10). Why? “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23). In other words, all who obey the law will be declared righteous. Problem–no one can obey the Law. Therefore, none of us is righteous. So how then do we reconcile these two truths that seem to speak against each other?

We don’t have to–Paul already has. “But now the righteousness of God apart from the law is revealed, being witnessed by the Law and the Prophets, even the righteousness of God, through faith in Jesus Christ, to all and on all who believe” (Romans 3:21-22). We cannot possibly obey the Law perfectly–which is what God demands. The good news–or, gospel–is this: we don’t have to. Christ obeyed the Law for us, so that if we believe in Him as our Savior we too will be declared righteous by faith. Romans 8:3-4–“For what the law could not do in that it was weak through the flesh, God did by sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, on account of sin: He condemned sin in the flesh, that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.” 2nd Corinthians 5:21–“He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we may become the righteousness of God in Him.”

  23. Quote from T.A Jones

What is the act that has been entered that is the base for the new covenant?

Im glad you asked , Theo , because this might surprise you , maybe ?

    Ezekiel 36:24
For I will take you from amoung the heathen …

    vs 25
Then will I sprinkle clean water upon you, and ye shall be clean , from
all your filthiness , and from all your idols, will I cleanse you.
    vs 26
A new heart also will I give you, and a new Spirit will I put within you, and I
will take away the stoney heart out of your flesh , and I will give you a heart of
    flesh.
    vs 27
And I will put my Spirit within you ,and cause you to walk in my statutes…
    vs 29
I will also save you from all your uncleanesses……

So what is the base of the new covenant , here’s a clue , it has nothing at all to do with your efforts, for as the above text so plainly declares , the base of the new covenant is all of Christ , and all for Christ.
    ————————

This is not the first instance that I have encountered T.A Jones, and due to the fact that he is obfuscating his brave new gospel, I have pasted this from another disscussion forum so that everyone else can observe for themselves the false gospel he is peddling .

    Quote.
In all of your cases there are actually four things you must have the faith to do in order to be redeemed from the curse of your natural birth.

    1. Lay aside every contemporary explanation of salvation which you have read, heard from any contemporary church’s pulpit. The salvation doctrines of all theologians and whomever they have taught, and whoever positively pontificates in any form that what theologians teach about the Lord’s Way of salvation is not falsehood. For their doctrines of salvation are specifically designed to keep you out of God’s kingdom and t
    2. If you get over that hurdle, which I doubt many of you will, it is necessary to test what I teach. In other words you will have the faith to try what I teach to prove or disprove what I teach. If any of you sincerely obey my gospel one or more of the spiritual gifts listed by the apostles will be physically manifested in you proving what I teach is actually true. But the required confession must be your honest conviction or it is a lie.
    3. Hurdle three. Where the rubber meets the road and what every theologian and contemporary preacher hotly contests and must contest. But if you continue to believe what they contest and pontificate there is no hope of you escaping the curse of your natural birth. None. For this is the actual key you must have the faith to hope, trust in, and in sincerity use to escape from the consequence of your natural birth. For there is absolutely no other way of escaping the curse of natural birth and the curse of the law. For by Jesus’ crucifixion a law has been added to the law. And you must have the faith to obey this law exactly as you have been commanded by the Lord thy God given through the apostles. Or willfully disobey a law of God which is not forgivable. Which is what Jesus meant by saying “they are now being forced in” by the law added to the law by and after his crucifixion?
    4. Hurdle four. Recanting your former ways of salvation and be baptized into the new testimony about Jesus’ bloodshed. For without the shedding of His blood there is no remission of sin’s penalty for any of the naturally born. But understand me clearly. The crucifixion of Jesus’ has only perfected the Way you might escape from the curse of your natural birth and the law’s penalty. But to escape both you must by faith, sight unseen, obey an actual law that has been entered into the law as an act of righteousness. That if correctly obeyed by any naturally born individual God will declare him righteous as he promises.
“It is not those who hear the law who are righteous in God’s sight, but it is those who obey the law who will be declared righteous.”Rom. 2:13
The only Way this law, the Law of the Spirit, can be obeyed is by making this confession directly to God sincerely meaning it in your heart and be baptized in water to receive the promise.
“Oh God I am so truly and sincerely sorry your only begotten son Jesus’ lost his life by bloodshed when he was crucified.” There is no other way to escape.
    I am not ashamed: for
    I know whom I have
    believed, and am
    persuaded that he is
    able to keep
    that confession
    which I have committed
    unto Him against
    that day.

  24. So, Theodore says you need to say sorry for something he doesn’t even believe >you< did, and that saves you.

Some clues that you may be dealing with a false teacher:
    1. Obscure statements / questions.
    2. Quoting verses out of context.
    3. Not even trying to be clear. (We all are unclear at times, but these guys specialise in it).
    4. "I'm the only one who is right."
    5. Unclear on sin — "redeemed from the curse of your natural birth." No, we're redeemed from sin. Using strange wording ("curse of your natural birth") to diminish the Biblical clarity on sin.
    6. "Just try what I believe, sincerely try it out."
    7. Added to #6, if it didn't work you weren't sincere enough. Your fault, not his.
    8. "My gospel", what "I teach" — how about "what the Scripture teaches"? Claiming authority.
    9. Alternate "gospel". The only way is to repeat words not found in Scripture. Apparently, Paul was wrong in Acts 16. Too bad for the jailor, God should have sent Theodore instead.

There may be some others here I missed, but when you start seeing multiple clues, stand on guard. He is so illogical and unclear that he's not as dangerous as smoother ones who make their error sound logical. He'll still deceive some, because deceitful hearts find error to follow.

  26. According to Jesus the gate that an individual MUST have the faith to use to save himself is something he describes as small and narrow and he also says “only a FEW find it”. One of the factors relative to your proposal of salvation is many which is not consistent with “only a FEW find it”. A second factor of your proposal is that it fails to qualify Jesus’ crucifixion as an offense, i.e his crucifixion ceases to be a offense. A third factor your proposal fails to acknowledge is that the law has been changed after his crucifixion ref. Heb. 7:12. Your proposal also counters his statement in Jn. 16:8, “When he comes he will convict the world of guilt”. If it were true that Jesus had resolved all complications between God and mankind in regard to sin(s), just by having been crucified his statement in Jn. 16:8, would be a lie if your proposal of salvation is true. The crucifixion of Jesus is not the direct benefit you propose it to be. For even by participation at the Lord’s table the individual makes himself guilty of the Lord’s body and blood.

“Few” in the teaching of Jesus cited means that there are many more that go the broad way to destruction. It does not mean that only the few who follow Theodore’s strange and novel teachings are saved.

I won’t bother with the rest of it, I don’t have time. Many others here could answer it all, I’m sure.

  29. If the religious are not stired up in regard to the truth about the Lord Jesus and what he has perfected for your salvation by having been crucified. Then what has been accepted by the religious as truth is not true. For the good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit. Whereas your standard religious doctrine of salvation has the stated assumptive of the Lord’s crucifixion as a positive and direct benefit by all of your religious branches. The fruits being displayed during this era
are not consistent with fruits only the good tree can produce. The idol, pedophile, homosexual, lesbian and what other sexual perversions that exist, all of them are embodied in the hierarchy of the various branches of your tree. Which has for its root the lie that has been exchanged for the truth of God about Jesus’ crucifixion. Your defense is “Well it it not possible that one man can be right.” If you had been the contemporaries of Jesus you would have said the exact same thing to him. For the Lord’s enemies are the religious. “Thou preparest a table before Me in the presence of mine emenies” and this table sits right down in the front of everyone of your church houses, does it not? And isn’t it your rule, sola scriptura, that you all claim to have guided your stated beliefs? Now tell me is what he says true or false for that table does not appear in anyother place but your church houses.

By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles?

Look at the fruit of the people you mentioned in your post.
Look at the fruit. That is the test of a false prophet.
What is the fruit of this post?

  31. hno3burns – “simple apostolic Christianity” is a creed in and of itself, laden with much meaning that simple honesty demands be acknowledged. Many people do this by writing or holding to a written creed,or confession – none of which are perfect, but which do help Christians grasp and defend the biblical faith and refute heresies.

  32. Wanted to ask a question…in Matthew 24:4-12. In the beginning verses, Is Christ saying that false prophets WILL acknowledge He is Christ and deceive or is the verse stating that the false prophets will state that “they are Christ themselves”? Any input on this? Thanks and God Bless.

  33. When I first read your question, I thought, “Well, of course they will be declaring themselves to be a Christ, albeit a false one.” That is how I have always read that passage. However, after going back and reading the text, it’s not really an unreasonable question you raise. After all, the quotation marks around “I am the Christ” in that verse were not in the original, and it is not unfathomable to think that even these false teachers could be declaring that Jesus is the Christ. After all, even the demons declared Him to be the “Son of God” (Matthew 8:29; Mark 5:7).

However, I do believe that the proper reading should be that these false teachers will be declaring themselves to be a (false) Christ. The reason I say that is because after He lists all the things that will happen in those days (wars, pestilence, the ‘Abomination of Desolation’, etc), then He says that some will go around declaring “He is in the desert” or “He is in the inner rooms”–leading people to the one who is falsely claiming to be the Christ.

  34. And, actually, those things you listed, fourpointer – “some will go around declaring “He is in the desert” or “He is in the inner rooms”–leading people to the one who is falsely claiming to be the Christ” – all took place during the siege of Jerusalem and are well documented by Josephus.

  35. The Greek wording is pretty standard for a quotation. Added to that is that “I” is implied by the form of the word for “am,” so it was not necessary to have the word “I” to convey the meaning, but it is there, anyway — an emphatic “I”, such as from one who is wanting to emphasise his personal claim to be the Messiah. Lenski thus translates it, “I myself am Christ.”

Thus, “in my name” means claiming His name for themselves, calling themselves Christ, rather than acknowledging the truth Christ. I checked 7-8 commentaries to see if I was missing something, and they all agree.

Of course, that does not preclude other false teachers from acknowledging Him as Messiah but then lying about other doctrines. It just means that these particular ones that He mentions in this verse will actually claim to be Him. But Satan has many lies….

  40. Don’t know if this is anything new, but thought I’d paste it in anyway……from Spurgeon….”Jesus was always practical. The most important thing for his disciples was not that they might know when “these things” would be, but that they might be preserved from the peculiar evils of the time. Therefore, Jesus answered and said unto them, “Take heed that no man deceive you. For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ, and shall deceive many.” They were to beware lest any of the pretended Messiahs should lead them astray, as they would pervert many others. A large number of impostors came forward before the destruction of Jerusalem, giving out that they were the anointed of God, almost overy page of history is blotted with the names of such deceivers, and in our own day we have seen some come in Christ’s name, saying that they are Christs. Such men seduce many, but they who heed their Lord’s warning will not be deluded by them.”

Actually, I don’t believe this to be the Amil view , but the Partial Preterist view. I know a lot of Amils who wouldn’t give Josephus the time of day.
