Little children parade to the front during worship service to toss money into an offering plate as 
music is played. As they march out to children’s church, people clap.
“Beware of practicing your righteousness before other people in order to be seen by them, for then you will have no reward from your Father who is in heaven. “Thus, when you give to the needy, sound no trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may be praised by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.” (Matthew 6:1-4)

This is a tuff issue. How many worthy fundraising efforts are designed to violate this passage? I _______ am taking pledges for every _______ I do for cause ________. Go to my facebook account look at my picture and profile and click on your pledge amount so everyone can see how much I have raised.
Even modern mission work requires constant attention and publicity to raise financial support.
Other things are easy calls. Announcing to everyone that you will be serving meals for the poor on Thanksgiving is an obvious violation.

‘Tis far easier to trust the pledge of man than to trust the hand of God. I recall reading the account of missionaries in South America decades (Franklin Graham was part of the group if I recall correctly – a man with whom I have myriad disagreements). They told nobody about their needs; they prayed to God for His provision. Money was given, unbidden by man, and they did not go hungry, were able to build, etc. all the while not begging man nor even telling man of what they needed.
Later in the same passage quoted above, the Lord told people:
“This is why I tell you: Don’t worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Isn’t life more than food and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the sky: They don’t sow or reap or gather into barns, yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Aren’t you worth more than they? Can any of you add a single cubit to his height by worrying? And why do you worry about clothes? Learn how the wildflowers of the field grow: they don’t labor or spin thread. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was adorned like one of these! If that’s how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and thrown into the furnace tomorrow, won’t He do much more for you — you of little faith? So don’t worry, saying, ‘What will we eat? ’ or ‘What will we drink? ’ or ‘What will we wear? ’ For the idolaters eagerly seek all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be provided for you. Therefore don’t worry about tomorrow, because tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”
