Garth Brooks’ Freinds in Low Places sang in “Church” by “Worship” band.

I know this video has been around for a while, but I decided to post it for those of you who haven’t seen it. The video comes from a service at New Spring Church. Right before they conduct “worship” they sing a Garth Brooks drinking song entitled Friends in Low Places. For those who want to know exactly what the lyrics to this song are, I’ve posted them below the video.

Blame it all on my roots
I showed up in boots
And ruined your black tie affair
The last one to know
The last one to show
I was the last one
You thought you’d see there
And I saw the surprise
And the fear in his eyes
When I took his glass of champagne
And I toasted you
Said, honey, we may be through
But you’ll never hear me complain

‘Cause I’ve got friends in low places

Where the whiskey drowns
And the beer chases my blues away
And I’ll be okay
I’m not big on social graces
Think I’ll slip on down to the oasis
Oh, I’ve got friends in low places

Well, I guess I was wrong
I just don’t belong
But then, I’ve been there before
Everything’s all right
I’ll just say goodnight
And I’ll show myself to the door
Hey, I didn’t mean
To cause a big scene
Just give me an hour and then
Well, I’ll be as high
As that ivory tower
That you’re livin’ in

‘Cause I’ve got friends in low places

Where the whiskey drowns
And the beer chases my blues away
And I’ll be okay
I’m not big on social graces
Think I’ll slip on down to the oasis
Oh, I’ve got friends in low places

  1. The “friends in low places” of which they sing are, no doubt, Satan and his angels. For I’m sure they feel honored by this church’s “worship”.

How fitting that the video should end with the man standing in front of a sign that states “American Idol” and proclaims, “We’ve come here for a great reason this morning: To have a great time in the presence of God”. For they make “a great time” the idol which they worship.

    Sickening.

  2. Who cares? Its people like you that make a big deal out of stuff like this that make people think all christians are a bunch of JUDGEING people. You should be able to be the same person inside church as you are outside and if that means listening to Friends in low places then so be it. True Christian people should not have to pretend to be someone they are not just because they are in church. That’s the kind of two-faced people the bible speaks against. Shame on you for JUDGEING these people for enjoying themselves at church. If i knew where it was i would prolly check the place out just for having a good time. If you would like to reply to my comment you can e-mail me Nathan@tdhbinc.com

  3. ha looks like i commented before i had the opportunity to check out their website. I see that is Perry Noble ‘s church. He is an amazing teacher. I have heard him speak here in Dallas at my church. I love his sermons. Again shame on you! God has worked through his church to bring MANY people to a reformed life. If you get a chance i recomend you check out one of his teachings im sure there is a link on their website.

  4. Apparently, Nate, your incorrect understanding of “judging” indicates that are too busy “having a good time” than to be bothered with studying the Scriptures. But for your benefit (and so many others) I will be posting (in the near future) a lesson (using Scripture) on whether or not Christians are permitted to judge. It doesn’t matter what you or I think about the topic. What matters is what the Scriptures say. Believe it or not, doctrine still matters.

And regarding your comment about people acting one way in church and another way out of church, I couldn’t agree more. It sickens me. However, your implied solution–let’s act like the world inside church–is not very logical. It’s the old “they’re going to do it anyway…” argument. I prefer to seek what the Bible has to say about this behavior, not what Nate feels.

You adultresses, do you not know that friendship with the world is hostility toward God? Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself and enemy of God. (James 4:4-5)

Do not love the world nor the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the boastful pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world. (1 John 2:15-16)

Pure and undefiled religion in the sight of our God and Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their distress, and to keep oneself unstained by the world. James 1:27

  5. Wow, what foolish words from Nate. Truly, I do hope he comes to know the Lord, but until he does, the church would be much better off without his gangrenous doctrines infiltrating and influencing others.

Nate, you need to read the Word of God and learn His character and what He expects of YOU (and the rest of those who claim to belong to Him.) Because in Matt. 5:48, Jesus says we are to be perfect. That is not a suggestion. That is a command. And we do that through His Holy Spirit’s power –by reading and obeying the Word, praying, and praising God from a holy, humble, born-again heart.

I will email you a copy of this.

  6. True, Nate. If the Spirit of God is inside, the person shall refrain from listening to these things by the Spirit guiding him. And flee the wrath to come, if the church clings to the World.

  7. To Nate: you are right, people should not judge the church for “enjoying themselves” individually. Christ said to take the plank out of your own eye before you judge another. However, as a CHURCH BODY, whom is to represent CHRIST in all they do, every action done in the church ought to be worship and satisfactory to God, they are to be judged. Paul gives very specific regulations as to what behavior in church meetings should look like. There is nothing wrong with singing fun songs with friends, but in a specific place of worship – during a meeting of the saints (you, the body of Christ), it is simply wrong to sing about how alcohol drowns the blues away. Granted, there is nothing wrong with a drink or two once in a while. I drink some myself. At the same time, I don’t drink to escape my reality or because I want the drink to take my blues away. Only Christ can do that. Singing “Friends in Low Places” with friends can be fun and there is nothing remotely sinful about it in general, but it’s a song fit for your car, a bar, or your living room, not for a church gathering. There is a time and place for everything, and that includes songs like such. It spreads contradicting messages. In the church, the focus should be centered on Christ. Individually, we ought to be centered on Christ also, but yes, we must especially judge the church and how it behaves. We are Christ’s representatives – remember that. If a church decided to have orgies, everyone agreed it was pleasurable and for a “good time”, would that make it right? ABSOLUTELY NOT 🙂
