Jehovah’s Witnesses: The world will come to an end in 1975.

The best thing about this video isn’t the images, it’s the accompanying audio from 1967. Listen as the Watchtower’s circuit overseer Charles Sunutko tells of the fate to befall the world in 1975.

And yet the Jehovah’s Witnesses will sit in my living room and flat out lie to my face. They will deny that the organization ever taught or even emphasized the end of the world in 1975.

  1. I have a couple friends who worked for one of our local forest preserves this past summer (’07) & they told me that there was a Jehovah’s Witness who was a co-worker & this guy was “witnessing” to them all the time & it drove them nuts.
    I’ve heard another story from some of my cousins (Baptists) also concerning Jehovah’s Witnesses. These cousins of mine lived on a small farm, northeast of Rock Island & Moline, IL (they’re moving to a larger farm near Rochester, NY). From what I heard, apparently my Uncle Chris & Aunt Audrey were out & the boys were home alone. A couple Jehovahs Witnesses missionaries came driving up their driveway & pulled up by the farmhouse. Well, it sounds like their dog wasn’t overly happy about them coming to the farm & I guess when the missionaries came up onto the big wrap-around porch & knocked on the door, no-body answered. I guess what happened was that, as they were turning to go, the dog got in between them & their car & started growling & barking at them. It sounds that this little stand-off went on for a while & I guess, somehow they got back into their car & left as fast as they could!!! I suppose their dog knows the difference between the Gospel & heresy!!!

  3. Listen very carefully and I’m certain you will hear the word ‘possibly’ when the speaker is talking about 1975 being the end of the system of things. If this is a recording of an actual convention, the speaker said that the end could ‘possibly’ take place in 1975. So is it accurate to say that the Witnesses looked a person in the eye and lied? Not according to this recording. And not according to any of their literature, including pre-1975.

    You need to listen to the whole thing. At the start, he says that 1975 “will mark the end of 6000 years of human history.” Then, about 2:50 into it, he warns, “Do not wait until ’75. The door’s going to be shut before then.”

    so, yes, the speaker is saying that 1975 will mark the beginning of then end

  5. Hi there! I’m happy to have found your blog and can’t wait to explore it more. Love your tag line on the top of the page!!!

    I found you searching for a copy of the October 1967 Watchtower but found many other goodies.

    I just wanted to say the ladies I have been meeting with do not deny that the JW’s were crazed about 1975 being the end. One lady said she was into it, lock stock and barrel, but doesn’t blame the leadership, only her own excitement and hope. The other lady claims she didn’t ever believe a word of it, and wasn’t in any way “in trouble” by not going along with it. I was able to give the ladies copies of some watchtower prophecies that were stated as fact. She took the copies, and is coming back today. In fact, that’s why I’m googling last minute ideas 🙂

    I’m trying to blog about my experience talking w/ the JW’s, my goal being to strengthen other stay-home mamas in this ministry that shows up at our doorstep! I plan to put links to Watchtowers, etc. as I find the time.

    Thanks for your encouraging comment. I think the Awake! that you are looking for was the October 8, 1968 edition (regarding the false prophecy of 1975). I also found the complete set of 1968 Awake! for you on ebay with an end date of March 30th. You can check it out here. Ebay was a great help in finding LDS and JW materials that they hope the general public doesn’t get their hands on.
