According to the LDS published book, Gospel Principles (1997 edition, pages 303-304), there are just a few things that are required in order to attain salvation in Mormonism. I thought I’d list them here.
** Warning ** Do not attempt to read the list of requirements in one breath. Asphyxiation may occur.
1. We must be baptized and confirmed a member of the Church of Jesus Christ.
2. We must receive the laying on of hands for the gift of the Holy Ghost.
3. We must receive the temple endowment.
4. We must be married for time and eternity.
In addition to receiving the required ordinances, the Lord commands all of us to–
1. Love and worship God.
2. Love our neighbor.
3. Repent of our wrongdoings.
4. Live the law of chastity.
5. Pay honest tithes and offerings.
6. Be honest in our dealings with others and with the Lord.
7. Speak the truth always.
8. Obey the Word of Wisdom.
9. Search out our kindred dead and perform the saving ordinances of the gospel for them.
10. Keep the Sabbath day holy.
11. Attend our Church meetings as regularly as possible so we can renew our baptismal covenants by partaking of the sacrament.
12. Love our family members and strengthen them in the ways of the Lord.
13. Have family and individual prayers every day.
14. Honor our parents.
15. Teach the gospel to others by word and example.
16. Study the scriptures.
17. Listen to and obey the inspired words of the prophets of the Lord.
Finally, each of us needs to receive the Holy Ghost and learn to follow his direction in our individual lives.
Whew! Is that all? What saith the Scriptures?
For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, so that no one may boast.
Ephesians 2:8-9
I just picked up a copy of GP (1988 edition) at a thrift store in Mobile. Got it for 99Β’. They must have added a bunch of stuff to the edition you have, because in mine, the hymn section starts on page 294, and the list you mention is on page 291-292.

well, you know how it is with Mormon doctrine, it is interchangeable. If they don’t like something today, they can move it or get rid of it completely.
Good post! Sad thing is, they will turn a blind eye to what Scripture says, and will put their faith completely in Joseph Smith.

You need to get the 1997 edition of Gospel Principles. Since 1988 the winds of doctrine in LDS have apparently blown in some new stuff.

Hard to believe that Mormons would add new doctrines, huh? π
But, yeah, I got it so that when someone says, “The Mormon church has never taught that!” I can show them that, uh, yeah, they did. Besides, it cost me like 99Β’. Small price to pay.

Ebay is another great source for books from early Mormon history that they hope you don’t get your hands on! But most will cost you more than a dollar for sure.

You are doing a good thing with this blog. I spent 6 months talking to some mormons about their blasphemous and unBiblical ways. They did as they were trained to, and danced around everything I said to them. Finally, my anger took over and I hurt the feelings of some of the “elders” (who were several years younger than me). After they stormed out, never to speak to me again, I felt bad. I was trying to use my wisdom and not the Holy Spirit to show them the error of their ways. I pray some mormons look into the Truth of your “persecution” on here and find the real Jesus!

Great post…I have a thing for being strongly opposed to the Mormon Church and this shows how wrong they are. Not once is this stated in the Bible. They are taking the words of a man with 23 wives over the words of our Lord!!!

Hi there,
I am a simple believer in the Lord and worship on my own. I ran into this website today and just started “surfing” around. I clicked on a few errors and answers. It seems that most of you post on most of the topics I was searching.
You all seem to know much about the Lord’s teachings and it made me curious about some things.
What is the true teachings and interpretation and where can I get it? I don’t know if you have all mentioned what church you all attend, but what church do you go to? I never like going to church because I am bored and feel they are sharing their opinion. THat is why I just stay at home, read the Bible. What is the true understanding and can i get it in a book?
I would appreciate all of your comments,
THanks

The true understandiing of God’s word, God’s will, God’s truth, God’s character and attributes are found only in God’s word, the Bible. The interpretation of God’s word is given by the Holy Spirit, Who will ALWAYS be in full accord and agreement with the whole of God’s word (the 66 books of Scripture from Genesis to Revelation). I say the whole of God’s word, because too many false teachings are built upon scattered verses here and there, and in so doing, lead many trusting souls astray. That’s why it is so critical to study God’s word daily for yourself. Work through it, it takes time, but it’s absolutely vital.
We do not attend a single church, but are spread out across the country (and the world), holding to the one Faith, once delivered unto the saints.
If this site has been a benefit to you, praise God! But I’m sure everyone here would be quick to say, check out what we say according to what God has said in His word. Thus we return again to the absolutely critical need to read and study God’s word, and pray for understanding.
I will pray for you.
