Sola Scriptura (34)

bible-page.jpg “Behold, days are coming,” declares the Lord GOD, “when I will send a famine on the land, not a famine for bread or a thirst for water, but rather for hearing the words of the Lord. People will stagger from sea to sea and from the north even to the east; they will go to and fro to seek the word of the LORD, but they will not find it.”
– The Prophet Amos
Amos 8:11-12

  1. Aint that the truth? If you flick through the christian TV channels, you have to search dilligently amongst the mess and false teaching to find the word of God. I have started writing a blog about a ‘famine of the word’ and will hopefully publish it within the next few weeks (if I can get round to finishing it)

  2. Amen!! Even my 8 year-old “cousin” Kit, knows the difference between apostasy & truth. When I visited him & his family over the summer, we were talking about apostasy in the Roman Catholic Church & he asked me, in effect, were the Apocryphal books in the Catholic Bible true or not. I was slightly surprised, but seeing as his mother, my “Aunt” Audrey, homeschools the boys & he is well-versed in Scripture, I could figure out why he knew about this.

  3. I know of people who go to and fro to this conference and that seminar to hear from the Lord. But when they return, they have no word from the Lord. Instead, all their talk is about the speaker or the peole or the music and light show. No word of the Lord, no revelation of Him. But while they were out, I sat alone in my room praying night after night – alone; and God came.

  4. Dear Thomas,

Wow. There’s more truth packed into your comment than most sermons being preached today. Thank you for your thoughts.

(And the comment below by fire and brimstone is proof of that!)

  5. That wasn’t God – that was Satan that came to you in response to your prayers – just like he did to Joseph Smith! Go listen to Paul Washer before its too late!

  6. Fire and Brimstone,

Thank you for your dear concern for my salvation. But I would like to point something out to everyone here. Concerning my slavation, you reffered me to a man rather than to the One by whom there is salvation by no other name. I know what you were doing, but just look for a moment:

There seems to be a lot of talk about Paul Washer these days – almost like we’re lifting him up and giving him more glory than Jesus Christ Himself (similar to how some treat the apostle Paul). I spent some time with Paul a while back. Before I knew him, I got my hopes built up about this super-spiritual, glory shining from the face, and salvation emitting from his clothings kind-of person. But he’s just a normal, ordnary man; and an old man at that πŸ™‚ I’m sorry, I do not mean to come directly at you. I just want others to see this.

I have been studying under and listening to Paul’s teachings for years now (even before he became popular via internet!!). My eyes have been opened to the apostacy and heresy of our day by God Himself, and no man – and I thank God for that. In this crazy day where so many false teachings exist – i.e. Joseph Smith – I must hold fast to that which was literally and spiritually handed down to me, the faith handed down once for all; that is the whole, entire Word of God in the written Scriptures, both Old and New Testaments.

But, Paul Washer is not mine or anyone’s ultimate authority for the Truth we hold to. Belive me, he’s not perfect and has not always preached or taught pure and perfect Truth. If Paul, or even an angel, spoke something contrary to the Word, let him be accursed – yes, even Paul Washer. If ‘whoever’ comes to me in prayer or dream or vision and if what they say is contrary to Scripture (not what Paul says, although he speaks the Truth), then yes that was not God because God cannot lie. But if what I receive in prayer aligns with the whole councel of God in the written Scriptures, to which I always refer to (and God always confirms what He says to me in His Word), then I can have assurance that God has spoken.

Again, I apologize for being rude and rough, and I do thank you sincerely for your zeal for God and concern for the truth of the Truth and for my salvation. But these things were on my heart to share with everyone and your comment sparked it.
