cs-lewis.jpg   God whispers to us in our pleasures, speaks to us in our conscience, but shouts in our pain: it is His megaphone to rouse a deaf world.

  1. Very true quote & at a very appropriate time. My beloved Grandma Phillips, a true soul-winner & prayer warrior, rather suddenly went to be with the Lord on February 28th after a lengthy hip replacement surgery. One of the stories that was included in the bulletin for service at her retirement home was from her mini autobiography that she had written about 5 yrs. ago. She wrote that soon after my grandpa’s home-going (in Dec. of 1998), she had felt so alone & asked God where He was. At that point God placed in her mind a passage from Isaiah about how God promised to be her Husband. At that point, she said that she felt an overwhelming peace and comfort come over her & she said that she never felt lonely again. At the family funeral down in Alabama over the weekend, the minister stated that Amilee (my grandma) would surely get on him if he didn’t take the opprotunity to ask those attending if they had accepted Christ as their Lord & Savior.

  2. It is beyond my capability to comprehend why so many people put so much stock in the words of C S Lewis. According to his auto-biography he is (was) a practicing occultist. Soooo, one minute he listens to demons and the next the Holy Spirit? Oh, please!!! How does this square with II Cor. 6:14-18?

  3. I am unsure what auto-biography you are referring to (do you mean “surprised by joy”) and have not read any autobiographies. I do know however that Lewis did not convert to Christianity until he was in his early thirties and that it is very possible that the so-called occultism was prior to his conversion. Also, in what ways was he an “occultist,” what did he say in the book to make you think that. From the little I actually know about him and the marginally more I know about his theology I think it is pretty clear that he was a strong believer. I put trust into many people much smarter and much stronger than I am in the faith. These people believe that Lewis was a great apologist, and I think that is the best way to view him.
This is also an amazing quote by the way!
