Monsignor Gianfranco Girotti , close ally of the Pope and head of the Roman Curia’s main court–The Apostolic Penitentiary–has released a list of Roman Catholicism’s new 7 Deadly Sins:
– Polluting the environment.
– Taking drugs.
– Becoming obscenely wealthy.
– Causing social injustice.
– Causing poverty.
– Experimenting on humans.
– Genetic modifications.
Read more about these “new sins” here and here and here. For more on the deadly sin of pollution, check out this article.

I don’t know what’s so “new” about these sins. I also don’t know what’s so wrong about the “old” sins. I appreciate that the Catholic Church is trying to impress upon people the variety of sins, however replacing the 7 deadly sins is a dangerous road to tread upon!

I get it. Pollution is sin, but homosexuality isn’t. How could we have been so wrong for so long.
Fact is, many people are treating this as a joke. They have in the media over here in England anyway.
This just shows how little people know or believe what the word of God says.
This is the same church who is responsible for the deaths of over 50 million Christian martyrs, and they want us to listen to them and not God?
Their condemnation is just.
God bless.

Doreen I don’t remember homosexuality being included in the original seven deadly sins. I do not think that anyone believes the seven deadly sins to be comprehensive.
Also, why do you think that the Catholic church is responsible for the deaths of over 50 million martyrs? That seems a bit far-fetched…

Concerning the figure of 50 million being martyred by the Roman Catholic church, go to http://www.bereanbeacon.org and see for yourself.
They have a video about the Inquisition, and it documents the martydom of Christians by the Catholics over a period of over 600 years, and the figure of 50 million is given.
The video is available on youtube.
As I said, see for yourself.

You cannot just believe anything you see or read on other websites. Historically there is a truth in the inquisition but Pope John Paull II has already asked for forgiveness for the past mistakes that the church committed. and i think its very irresponsible in generalizing the Catholic church as a whole. The Church is not the enemy, it is the sins man commits especially self pride…

No religion can be held responsible for the actions of those who merely profess faith in that particular belief system, unless those actions were carried out as a direct result of that church’s teaching.
If a priest molests a boy, no one can justly claim that he was acting with the authority of the RCC to commit that act. However, when the acts committed by individuals are sanctioned by the church of their faith, and those acts are committed by persons who are carrying out those acts because of the teachings of that church, then yes, the church that endorses the actions have to answer to that.
If the Catholic man down the street snaps one day and kills his whole family, no one can say the Catholic Church is directly to blame. However, if the Catholic Church endorses, promotes, and sanctions the murder (burning at the stake) of individuals because they won’t bow to the pope and kiss his ring, or for daring to translate the Scriptures into English, then the fault lies at the feet of the RCC. Apologies 1,500 years later mean little. The error was (and remains) in the RCC doctrine.
This same phenomenon can be seen in Mormonism with the LDS doctrine of Blood Atonement (see here and here) which LDS now condemns or denies all together. The problem is that it was taught by the leaders of LDS, and like the RCC, these leaders claimed to be the prophets and mouthpieces for God, the vicars and the only inspired authority of God on earth.
It gets really interesting when RCC or LDS claim that their previous “inspired” leaders were in error because then it brings into question how many others errors did they commit? How can we trust the current pope or church president? How do we know that what they say today won’t be contradicted and considered in error later?
That’s why Sola Fide is so vital to knowing and understanding truth. Truth never changes. Men’s ides, opinions, and traditions do.
You simply can’t gloss over massacres that were committed because of a church’s teaching. Whether it be the Mountain Meadow Massacres committed by LDS or the Inquisition committed by the RCC.
So please don’t confuse the acts of individuals separate from the church with acts committed by those sanctioned by the church.
Respectfully,
– The Pilgrim

I understand that the Inquisition might be the RCC’s fault. But it was 1500 years ago. The RCC then and the RCC now are completely different entities and to blame today’s Catholicism for the sins of the church 1500 years ago seems empty.

It is obvious that you have not or will not view the website given. If you do, then you will gain more understanding.
Richard Bennet, who was a Roman Catholic priest for 22 years, before he got saved and became a Christian, founded the website, and has books published as well.
The video, The Inquisition, is not for the faint-hearted. It really isn’t.
As for the Catholics ending their inquisition, who says they have?
The video document atrocities up to the 1990’s.
Still, since the Roman Catholic Church is so seemingly infallible, whose to say anyone who speaks against them isn’t wrong?

The Catholic Church is by no means infallible, no church is. However, I believe that many churches have perpetrated many atrocities throughout history and that alone does not make them invalid. Bad people do bad things. Why is this the first I have heard about the horrific aspects of the Catholic Church? Surely, Mr. Bennet is not the first to be troubled by this aspects… I have learned a valuable lesson to take everything I hear with a grain of salt, especially if it comes from the internet. The Words of Christ are the only exception to that rule.

Everything you hear? Or read I suppose as well. Like media news, who gives us news not truth, both t.v, newspapers and internet.
What people say, sermons we hear, need to be aligned with the word of God or they are not worth noticing.
And not only the words of Christ, but the entire Bible should be our standard. But I suppose you mean that as well.
Oh well, let’s just live to please God.
God bless.

But don’t christians kill, too?
Don’t get me started listing the attrosities of the christian church. I’ll start with one commited by Peter right out of the NT
Acts 5:1-11
There was also a man named Ananias who, with his wife, Sapphira, sold some property. He brought part of the money to the apostles, but he claimed it was the full amount. His wife had agreed to this deception. Then Peter said, “Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart? You lied to the Holy Spirit, and you kept some of the money for yourself. The property was yours to sell or not sell, as you wished. And after selling it, the money was yours to give away. How could you do a thing like this? You weren’t lying to us but to God.” As soon as Ananias heard these words, he fell to the floor and died. Everyone who heard about it was terrified. Then some young men wrapped him in a sheet and took him out and buried him. About three hours later his wife came in, not knowing what had happened. Peter asked her, “Was this the price you and your husband received for your land?” “Yes,” she replied, “that was the price.” And Peter said, “How could the two of you even think of doing a thing like this – conspiring together to test the Spirit of the Lord? Just outside that door are the young men who buried your husband, and they will carry you out, too.” Instantly, she fell to the floor and died. When the young men came in and saw that she was dead, they carried her out and buried her beside her husband. Great fear gripped the entire church and all others who heard what had happened. (Acts 5:1-11 NLT)

ok, so God or the Holy Spirit did it? It just seems to me contrary to the image of God and Jesus portrayed in the NT. Jesus saved the adulteress from death (at the time, sin punishable by death). But, lying and stealing are not punishable by death and God is consistent in his judgment, right? This leaves two options, the story is fiction or Peter did it. Wasn’t Peter the guy that cut that other guys ear off? God allows people to repent of sin, right? Peter entrapped the woman here and did not give her a chance to repent. That act alone is deplorable.

Actually this is laughable what is obscenely wealthy? Being obscenely wealthy is a relative term and hopefully someday i will get to commit this deadly sin over and above the obscene wealth.Taking drugs? I know they mean drugs like cocaine etc but shouldn’t they be more specific? or is it any kind of drugs? Causing poverty? Don’t the priest take an oath of poverty or something. Is that not causing poverty? Genetic modification is that going to eliminate poverty by producing product that are drought resistant etc?I guess the 10 commandments are not enough to tame the world.
The Catholic church is always a joke even when the came to what the supposedly called “spreading the gospel” they came with a gun and a bible on the other hand. I suppose to hunt for dears….haahaha. sic to kill the untamed natives isn’t that what they are now calling social injustice?
