While very few Mormons today would try to defend Joseph Smith’s ideas about the “inhabitants of the moon,” the Church still teaches that the Book of Mormon is scripture, that Adam’s altar is in Missouri, and that the Book of Abraham was translated from Egyptian papyrus.
– Jerald and Sandra Tanner
‘…the book of Abraham was translated from Egyptian papyrus.’
Oh! So the Egyptians were mormons? I don’t remember reading that in the Bible.
But if it is in the ‘book of Abraham, and sanctioned by the mormons, whose to argue with them?
Matthew 24v11, ‘Then many false prophets will rise up and deceive many.’

Dear Doreen,
If you haven’t had the opportunity yet, check out the video The Lost Book of Abraham. It examines and exposes the big hoax Joseph Smith perpetrated on his followers regarding these papyrus that only he (of course) could translate.
It’s sad to see so many LDS actually still believe there’s such a thing as “Reformed Egyptian.” It doesn’t exist, and never did, (it’s kind of like Leprechauns).
The recent revealing that the Book of Abraham was a fraud puts Mormons into a tight spot. If they admit the fact that “Reformed Egyptian” never existed, then they must admit Joseph Smith lied about his ability to translate which then begins to unravel the whole Mormon faith. So they cling tenaciously to this Book of Abraham lie because to admit it strikes a great blow to their faith and dedication to a system that they’ve devoted their entire lives to.
When Mormons (more than they like to admit) come to that place where they begin to see the inconsistencies, cover-ups, contradictions, ever-changing doctrines, etc. that plagues Mormonism, I can honestly sympathize with their predicament. They’ve been conditioned their whole lives that LDS is the only true church and that the Christian faith is of the Devil, so when they come to realize that LDS is untrue, many tend to remain in the cult because they feel there’s nowhere else for them to go. It is so unfortunate for those who continue to reject the grace, love, and forgiveness of the true Jesus Christ because of the damage LDS has done to them and their way of thinking.
