One of the greatest problems in American households today . . . regarding parent children relationships . . . is this: children want to be recognized–they want to have the authority and the rights of an adult–without being willing or without being able to assume the responsibility.
– Paul Washer
Sadly, that quality also describes many parents these days. They want to be recognized, but they don’t want to go through the trouble of actually being a parent. Or, they just want to be their kid’s “buddy” and be the “cool” parent who, instead of being a parent, lets their kid get away with all kinds of crap .
