“Every branch in Me that does not bare fruit, He takes away.” What does He mean? Let me just make this statement: There are men and women, young and old in every congregation who identify with the people of God but are unbelieving and fruitless, and when they die they will go to Hell.
– Paul Washer
This has really become a disturbing trend in the church today, even amongst so-called pastors. But Jesus gives us a stern warning about their fate: “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?’ Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!'” (Matt. 7:21-23) So many people in the church today believe in believing, but don’t actually truly believe. They’ll be in for a rude awakening.
