Ingrid first reported on Slice of Laodicea on April 23rd about Ravi Zacharias’ refusal to pray in Jesus’ name at the National Day of Prayer (and even Coram Deo tackled the issue here on his blog).
But Ravi’s descent started a long time ago in 2004 when he was a guest speaker at the LDS Temple in Salt Lake City, Utah. There, Ravi gave a sermon that left the Mormons feeling good; like there was no difference between their counterfeit “Jesus” and the true Jesus revealed by the Scriptures. I first reported on this here.
I hope people will begin to step back from blindly endorsing such men as this. Examine them closely before you sit under their teaching. I, for one, am not willing to endorse or listen to any man who is willing to compromise with a cult; I refuse to listen to anything Ravi has to say, and I just wish more Christians would be as careful and discerning.
Your post is spot on accurate, Pilgrim!
Ravi’s been on my apostasy radar for some time as well. I’ve posted a couple of prior pieces on him over at Absolute Dominion:
The Trouble With Ravi (posted 7/20/07)
Has Ravi Zacharias Gone Contemplative? (posted 4/15/07)
The nature of apostasy is typically follows he same sad patterns; first there’s the slippery – yet diabolically attractive – slope that starts with a little “compromise” here and there, after all, perhaps a “little nuance” is in order now and again on some “hard teachings”, right? And let’s not forget the slow but steady departure from “divisive doctrines” in order to promote some ever so noble and uplifting “UNITY” among the “brethren”.
Yet this is the “love” that God hates and lest they repent those who practice such offenses will certainly be vomited forth from His mouth in a righteous and holy act of utter revulsion and rejection.

It’s been said that compromise will always lead a man further than he intended to go. Ravi Zacharias is a great example of this. I am certain his acceptance of Shirley Dobson’s request to refrain from using Jesus’ name in his “prayer” at the NDP, and his appearance at the LDS Temple in 2004, were not lapses in judgment that occurred overnight. Instead they’re manifestations of a long slow compromise; one wrong step at a time.

AMEN!!!!
People are so swept away by the intellect and the high and lofty technique he speaks saying oooooooh aaaaaaaah isn’t he great!
When I brought up these issues, I was told….but he’s so intelligent….he should know, he’s more educated than many.
Well so sorry if anyone is intimidated by those words.
Christians live by faith in God’s Word, not man’s.
But with so much at stake….book sales etc…what do you expect from those who love mammon/popularity more then men’s souls.
Christ in You will reveal false teachers!

“I, for one, am not willing to endorse or listen to any man who is willing to compromise with a cult;”
How does this pan out when corresponding with people who pay for, or, have children in, the public school system and most of the universities? Is the public school system and acadamia not a hostile anti-Christian cult, and the major projenitors in this cultural debacle we are having issues with right here.
Ravi’s roll is an “Apologist”; he acts as a bridge from culture to Christ.
1 Corinthians 9:19-23 For though I am free from all men, I have made myself a slave to all, that I might win the more. 20 And to the Jews I became as a Jew, that I might win Jews; to those who are under the Law, as under the Law, though not being myself under the Law, that I might win those who are under the Law; 21 to those who are without law, as without law, though not being without the law of God but under the law of Christ, that I might win those who are without law. 22 To the weak I became weak, that I might win the weak; I have become all things to all men, that I may by all means save some. 23 And I do all things for the sake of the gospel, that I may become a fellow partaker of it. This might be a cheap grace issue for a Christian who lives a worldly life, but that is not who Ravi is.
Is not Ravi the most effective soldier we have fighting to regain acadamia and you want to tell academic seekers he is not credible? Do you lift a hand to the credibility that the perverted public school system and acadamia enjoy while they mockingly work to distroy what is left of Christianity in our culture?

Ravi may have not prayed in Jesus name, he was invited to preach in LDS tabernacle and so was Moody.
I think he has done a lot of good in bringing the Gospel to non-Christians and also to the Muslims. Perhaps he should have been stronger.
He isn’t preaching to Christians in a church but a guest speaker at a non-Christian event.
At least he is speaking for Christianity and against atheist and reasoning with the non-Christians about the uniqueness of Jesus Christ as the only way to God.

Will the “perfect” man with the “perfect” preaching please stand up….

Bryan, thank you for stopping by to read here at DefCon. If your reference is to our judging Ravi, then let me make a few points.
1. As ministers of the glorious gospel of Jesus Christ, we are held to a much higher standard than those who have not been tasked with the delivery of the message.
2. We do not believe that any person on earth is “perfect” and we certainly do not believe there is any “perfect” preaching. The Only Person who ever accomplished both was the Lord Jesus Christ.
3. Ravi has taken steps down a slippery slope that cannot be excused for any reason by any true believer. The Lord Himself stated that we are to judge according to righteous judgment.
4. Any minister who no longer qualifies per the instruction given in 1 Timothy and Titus is disqualified from his ministry. The worst charge that I believe can be brought against one who claims to be a messenger of the Most High is that they have watered down the message and then expect others to believe they do with “good intentions.”
Lastly, I often wonder what those who find fault with us taking a stand against heresy, false teaching, and the depravity of man would have actually said if the apostle Paul were alive today. His letters probably would not be read as they are too condemning and judgmental.
Come to think of it, most of his letters are being ignored anyway today as irrelevant!

Ravi is a true servant of god. I know him personally. You need discernment when you are dealing with non believers. But i do feel sad at him not telling the truth directly to the mormons.

Give it to them straight. I agree you don.t have to be bullish but the truth of. Christ is radical. It has to be given to people who are caught up in a lie. It’s more than just a doctrinal difference. Mormons need the whole clear truth of salvation

Bryan,
Was it not the defenders of the false prophets that threw God’s true prophet Jerimiah into the well?
Was it not the defenders of the false prophets that mocked and rejected and even slew God’s true prophets? have you joined the rebellion of Korah?
Was not just one false prophecy legal grounds from God to kill them?
Is not God’s wrath kindled against all who speak falsely in His name?
That is how seriously God treats error and those who speak falsely in His name.
Choose this day whom you will serve.
If any man teach another gospel let them be accursed of God.
God is always gracious to those who humble themselves and repent and so should we.
Conversely he opposes the proud who will not humble themselves who will not repent.
The ball is in Ravi’s court and he has no one to blame but himself.
