I also think there’s another danger in the prospertiy gospel that wasn’t addressed. The Bible does say that, as Christians, we will go through trials in this life. However, with many of the prosperity “preachers” saying that suffering is a sin, it begs the question, what would a prosperity “Christian” say & feel when a loved one dies, when a tornado destroys their home, when their child or spouse gets cancer? I’m sure they won’t go the Biblical route, but probably feel that God had abandoned them. As someone who lost my father to cancer when I was only 11 (in 2000), for almost 4 & 1/2 years, I felt that God had abandoned me. I mean, how could God take a devout Christian from our family in such circumstances. But almost 7 years later I came to realize that God used this to help me grow spiritually & to show me His goodness in ways that wouldn’t have happened had my father still been alive.

Plus, it makes people feel like if they have cancer, or someone they love dies, that “Oh, what else could I have done? I used my ‘faith words’, I sent in my $58 seed. I cleared out my bank account and sent it to Brother Copeland. I guess God just doesn’t care!”
Thing is, if Copeland, Duplantis, etc. had been around back when poor old Peter was getting crucified upside-down, they could have taught him how to release the power of victory in his life! Polycarp could have avoided being burned, and John would have had the biggest, baddest condo on all of Patmos!
Hard to believe the same city that gave us John Piper also foisted upon the world the insufferable Doug “Ah, who needs that old Bible, anyway?” Paggitt.

I agree! too many people want to come to God for what they can GET from him. It is not about giving up their old life, they still want to live their own way. They just want to get things, like peace, happiness and joy and of course, money!!
