Creation in the Park

Right across the street from the local high school is a city park, and every day after school there are 50-100 kids that go hang out in the park. My friend had the idea to make copies of some DVDs on creation by Kent Hovind (he encourages free distribution), and go hand them out. We also wrote a tract for the occasion concerning several questions that evolutionists can’t answer, and the gospel. We gave out most of the stuff and had a few good conversations. Hopefully the kids will watch their DVD and get interested in the topic and the Lord Jesus Christ.

A couple of things struck me about the whole thing. We would ask the kids if they believe in evolution, and one kid said that he thinks we’re going to evolve into gods. A couple of them thought God used evolution to create everything. The vast majority of them said they didn’t believe in evolution, but believed God created us. I’m sure most of them have some crazy ideas about God, but I was reminded that it’s obvious that there must be a Creator, and anyone who denies it is lacking the common sense of a teen-ager.

The other thing is that we invited our church to get involved, and they found an excuse not to get involved. I invited people from church individually, and none of them were interested. I continue to be fascinated that so many Christians just refuse to get involved in sharing their faith. Don’t they believe hell is real? Don’t they care to be obedient to the Great Commission? How much easier can I make it for them? I don’t get it.

It was a fun way to share our faith, and I would recommend it to anyone. We plan on returning on a regular basis. If anyone knows of other DVDs on creation that are free of copyright, I’d appreciate a heads-up on that.

  1. Dear Bill:

Great post. I am currently going through the Hovind series on DVD and just watched the one on Dinosaurs last night. Wow! Those DVDs are excellent and the one on Dinosaurs was mind-blowing.

I too know what you mean by the collective laziness exhibited by the modern church as they provide excuse after excuse for never leaving the almighty church building to “go into all the world.” [Sarcasm ON] Don’t you realize how comfy those church chairs are? And who has time for that evangelism stuff when there’s so many church pic-nicks, pot lucks and parties to organize and attend? And besides Bill, evangelizing is the pastor’s job. [Sarcasm OFF].

And finally, in answer to your question whether or not these people believe in Hell, I think their lifestyles answer that question rather abundantly. But who can believe in the reality of Hell when so many never hear about Hell from their pastor (or sin, or judgment, or holiness, or separation from the world, etc.)?

  2. Can you give info on how to get these videos. I have never heard of them. This was a great idea. We need to get out there and make a different rather than warming the pews from week to week.

  3. The Kent Hovind 8-part seminar series can be found here. You can also find it cheaper on ebay or simply rent them on Netflix.

To tide you over till you can get the videos, check out these videos. The guy who did them is very intriguing and is based off the Hovind seminar series. I don’t recommend these videos over the Hovind series, just something to whet your whistle.

  4. The only problem is that Kent Hovind refuses to keep his information up to date. Even when new discoveries are made he keeps using the same arguments. AiG and ICR have distanced themselves from him. Also note that he is currently in jail for tax evasion. Not exactly the best witness IMHO.

  5. Dear Rusty:

If you’re looking for your last comment I have decided to delete it. I am thoroughly getting tired of your camping on this blog just to add your rants. You have consistently spread your doubts, lies and heresies concerning the Christian faith all the while wearing a cloak of Christianity. You, sir, are the very reason this blog is necessary and we will no longer tolerate the injection of deceptions and outright attacks on the Christian faith by anyone, especially one from within who claims to be a brother.

Now before you cry “censorship” please read this. And by all means, if you want to get your “message” out then WordPress offers you the ability to start your own blog for absolutely free.
