Bible Reference Notes: “Whose Name?”

The Bible Reference Notes for today are on the subject of Whose Name? I put these together a while back when debating with some Jehovah’s Witnesses on exactly whose name is above all other names. I thought readers would be interested in this (especially if this topic comes up with a JW).

To find out the purpose and exactly how to use these Bible Reference Notes, check out the explanation in my first installment The Holy Scriptures. I also highly recommend Hell and the Eternal Soul (another good one for dealing with Jehovah’s Witnesses).

  1. Reading this post reminded me of the time when Jesus was taken to Pontius Pilate. Even in trial, all Jesus cared about was the salvation of the Roman’s soul.

Sometimes, knowing what is right and knowing what the Bible says is very important. But I think, it’s more important to know what to say to “save” the other person.

(Sorry… this probably had nothing to do with the post… but it’s what came to my mind when I was reading through.)

  2. Carolyn,

No one denies that the gospel is the message that saves (Romans 1:16). However knowing doctrine, and knowing why you believe what you believe what you believe is always important. They don’t seem to be seperable to me.

2 Tim. 2:15 says, “Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth.”

    Pilgrim,

Good post! You already have John 14:14 on the list, but I think it would also go well under “praying to Jesus.”

    Thanks,
    Bill

  3. “For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins ACCORDING TO THE SCRIPTURES; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day ACCORDING TO THE SCRIPTURES:” (I Corinthians 15:3-4 – emphasis added)

The doctrine of the Scriptures is an integral part of the Gospel.
