Still …

True, biblical love, is not self-serving. It is a gift from God, given in measure to His redeemed. Far too often, people who are married fail to grow in their love for their spouses, but continue to live for love themselves. This should not be so among the people Christ has redeemed by His blood.

Friends of mine, at my church, made this short video – depicting the love from God that we ought have for one another. Particularly in the covenant of marriage. I pray this prompts many to examine themselves and turn to YHWH in repentance and renewed faith.

  1. Shortly after I posted this video, the following Grace Gem arrived in my in-box.

The blemishes and faults of others

    (J.R. Miller) http://gracegems.org/Miller/SERMONS.htm

“Finally, all of you, live in harmony with one another; be sympathetic, love as brothers, be compassionate and humble.” 1 Peter 3:8

We should learn to look at the blemishes and faults of others–only through the eyes of love, with sympathy, patience, and compassion. We do not know the secret history of the lives of others around us. We do not know what piercing sorrows have produced the scars we see in people’s lives. We do not know the pains and trials which make life hard, to many with whom we are tempted to be impatient. If we knew all the secret burdens and the heart-wounds which many keep hidden beneath their smiling faces–we would be patient and gentle with all people.

“Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.” Colossians 3:12

  2. My parents are going through the same thing as shown in the movie. My parents have been married for 68 years. They are very much in love and have been. My Mom has dementia which started in 2008. Then this August she had a stroke, a heart attack and internal bleeding. My dad has stayed with her 24 seven. She can’t walk, see, or hear much. But my dad stays with her and holds her hand. He said she is his life. He wants to be there always. He reasured her that he would be with her for eternity. My Mom is 92 and my Dad is 89. The dementia is taking her life. It isn’t easy to see the love of your life deteriate in front of you. Mom calls dad constantly all day and night. It would drive most people crazy. But dad is often sitting on the same couch or standing behind her. She has become delerious and was trying to escape the prison she was in.
My Mom is well known for her flower arranging. She has tought Japanes flower arranging for 40 years. She even got a degree in it in a Japanes College. My dad is in Who’s Who in the world. He won the life time achievment award in science. He has invented may things we use every day. But who will remember him. i see people turn away from the disabled and old. They need attention and love as any one else does.
Next time when you see someone who is disabled or old, take the one minute in your day to say hi or help them a bit. Treat them as normal., that is all they want. It could be you in this situation. how would you like to be treated?

When I was in the hospital myself a week ago, two doctors yelled at me for failing the stress test. If they had known and was interested in my past medical history, they wouldn’t have said anything. My right leg is partially inactive, so it was hard for me to run on the treadmill. I tried to explain but the doctor didn’t want to hear it. Instead he was disgusted that I failed. I had Scarlet fever in 1968 and many physical problems followed. It affected my lungs, and other parts of my body. But the doctor didn’t want to know my past. I was old and he brushed me off.

I deliberatly go up to someone who has a physical problem. I talk to them. There was a man in a wheel chair that had been burnt. His hair was gone and he had scars all over. His body was maltiple colors. I went up to him and we talked about life and Jesus. He was a very kind and a likable fellow. Others walked around him and away from him. Non even said hi. It was obvious he was a lone and uncomfortable having people stare at him. We have to have compassion for others.

  3. Thanks for stopping by and telling us about the love your parents have shared for so long. While Christ is the life of any believer, I understand (I think) your father’s perspective in saying that about your mom.

I share with you some disdain for people who are supposed to be servants (such as doctors) but serve not those they are called unto, serving only themselves.

Press on, Sue. May the Lord God be your strength in easy times and times of trials.

  4. That is quite special brother. I have posted that to my Facebook page as well. I think every young couple should watch little films like this and realize that love is not just for the short term until you get tired of each other. Biblical marriage is for life. Thankful for almost 24 years so far.

  5. I hear ya, my brother. I am amazed at the gift God gave me 35 years ago! She has been Christ to me more than a few times, and more precious than anything of this world. And yet the Lord continues to bless and amaze me. Our 25 year-old married daughter is 13 weeks pregnant! Lord willing, we will be grandparents in May 2014.

These dear friends who made the video are a sweet couple.
