House Church Statistics

For those contemplating the idea of House Churches, here’s some statistics. I can personally attest that since leaving the self-absorbed, sleeping, lukewarm churches in my area and began fellowshipping in a House Church, I feel like I’ve been set free and my growth in the Lord Jesus Christ has never been stronger. Ingrid over at Slice of Laodicea featured the topic of House Churches here and received many good comments.

A Preacher on the Fence

This fantastic poem was featured on Slice of Laodicea. According to Ingrid, this poem was written in the 1920’s but you’d think it was written last Tuesday.

A Preacher on the Fence

From out of the millions of the earth
God often calls a man
To preach the word, and for the truth
To take a royal stand.
“Tis sad to see him shun the cross,
Nor stand in its defense
Between the fields of right and wrong:
A preacher on the fence.

Before him are the souls of men
Bound for Heaven or Hell;
An open Bible in his hand,
And yet he will not tell
All the truth that’s written there,
It haveth an offence –
The joys of Heaven, the horrors of Hell –
A preacher on the fence.

Now surely God has called the man
To battle for the right.
“Tis his to ferret out the wrong
And turn on us the light.
And yet he dare not tell the truth,
He fears the consequence,
The most disgusting thing on earth
Is a preacher on the fence.

If he should stand up for the wrong,
The right he’d not defend;
If he should stand up for the right,
The wrong he would offend.
His mouth is closed, he cannot speak
For freedom or against.
Great God deliver us from
A preacher on the fence.

But soon both sides will find him out
And brand him as a fraud,
A coward who dares not to please
The devil or his God.
Oh God, free us from fear of man,
From cowardly pretence;
Cleanse out the dross and fear of loss,
And keep us off the fence.

When praising God and aerobics collide.

You only need to watch a few seconds of this (a few minutes for those who are really daring) to understand that when Christians try to mimic the world by walking like the world, talking like the world, acting like the world; but with a “Christian” version, it leads to disastrous results like this. Furthermore, the praise and worship of God was never meant to be infused with aerobics.

ryle.jpg There is a common worldly kind of Christianity in this day, which many have, and think they have enough–a cheap Christianity which offends nobody, and requires no sacrifice, which costs nothing and is worth nothing.

Anna Nicole Smith a Christian?

Here’s a classic case of honoring God with your lips but not with your life. Anna Nicole Smith makes a “public profession” of faith in Jesus Christ in 1999 and lives the remainder of her life in a drug-induced stupor engaged in illicit sexual affairs. It is so sad to see her “example” of a Christian and what passes today as Christianity. “Many will say to Me Lord, Lord…”
