  1. I visited the church (Grace Family Baptist) at which Voddie serves an an elder last summer – growing discontent with a subtle yet substantive focus on the world and the creatures.

The church handed me a CD of this message. Years ago when I was serving as a “lay” minister to men at my current church, I tried to get Baucham speak at an event we were planning. We shared a few emails and I mentioned my frustration with SBC churches that were (in my opinion) at war on the family, by virtue of her “divide and conquer” approach to people and families. He replied that I might like his view. What an understatement!

My wife recently visited Grace Family, while I was out of town. We are now very close to bidding our church adieu and joining up with Grace Family.

Let all glory be unto and of Christ.

  2. As a mom that walks into church with 6 children trailing behind her, I can attest to what Voddie was saying. Some of the harshest looks and attitudes are from other believers. This was much needed encouragement for me because at times I feel like I am going it alone. The church as a whole does not encourage or support big families. We are looked at as an oddity. No one in the church but Voddie is really addressing this issue yet its at the heart of why we are failing as a church and a nation. The old saying “the hand that rocks the cradle rules the world” is still true today. Unfortunately even those within the church aren’t rocking the cradle anymore, a battery in some institutional setting is doing it for them.

  3. Thank you all for your comments. I too thought this was a fantastic sermon and a must-hear.

I am always reassured to continue fighting in the trenches of DefCon for the battle known as the Truth War when I hear such kind and encouraging words from all of you.

    Sbrogden:
Thanks for sharing your personal story in this matter.

    Papapatriot:
As always, thanks for letting me know that somewhere out there there’s always someone listening to the featured Wednesday sermons.

    Tanya:
I am so glad to hear that this message was an encouragement to you. What you said is so true.

    Sincerely,
    – The Pilgrim

  4. This is a great message. It definitely re-invigorated the vision for me and my wife to keep pressing on in this direction though virtually alone in our city.
Here are the statistics that we calculated a few years ago.
If we, having 6 children, brought up all 6 of them to serve the Lord, and gave them a foundation to do the same, and they each had 6 children, and that continued on for a few generations, the numbers would be:
    1 generation: 36 believers
    2 gen’s: 216 believers
    3 gen’s: 1296 believers
    4 gen’s: 7776 believers

So, conceivably, by my great-great-great-grandchildren’s time, I could have been instrumental in producing almost 8000 believers in about 100 years.

  5. I love Voddie and the Elders at Grace Family Baptist. To me, they are leading the way as far as churches go and they are prophetic in both proclamation and application!
