To complain against the partiality of grace is suicidal. If the sinner insists upon bare justice, then the lake of fire must be his eternal portion. His only hope lies in . . . casting himself on the mercy of God, and stretching forth empty hands to avail himself of the grace of God made known to him in the Gospel.

This is so true and yet so many people complain that God is not “fair”.

“Stretching forth the hands” sounds like an effort of the will, and bears the faintest aroma of “works.” Lost sinners lack the ability to stretch forth their hands toward God unless he supernaturally grants them the grace of “stretching forth.”
Maybe. I’m not sure.
