When former NBA star Charles Barkley isn’t gearing up to for run for governor of Alabama, or getting arrested for driving drunk in Arizona, he’s sharing his views about Christianity on CNN.

What is worse is Alabama folks will actually vote for this guy. His theology meshes just fine with the average young adult who claims to be a “Christian.”

In one of Mark Cahill’s books, he talks about having witnessed to Charles Barkley. If I remember correctly they played on the Auburn basketball team together. We can pray for the seed that has been planted to grow.
Thanks,

It is interesting to see that being a ball player qualifies one to speak on issues of theology and politics. I guess running up and down the hardwood qualifies one to be the governor of Alabama as well.
Barkley’s little bit of pontificating on that clip should remind us that me need to be clear and complete in our preaching and evangelism. People will hear what Barkley said and nod their heads in agreement just from the name recognition factor alone. We need to keep holding up the immovable absolutes of the Bible no matter how a humanistic cluture draws back from salt and light.

Hmm, let’s see if I understand Mr. Barkley:
“It’s wrong to judge other people, which is why I’ve judged those other people who judge others as ‘fake Christians’.”
I see, gotcha.

Isn’t that about the way it is? I’ve found that to be the case with those who CALL themselves Christians and live like the devil!

Saw Mark Cahill speak, and he did talk about witnessing to Barkley and other famous people…

Mr. Barkley speaks as one with the I.Q. of a plank of pine wood. He’d make a perfect governor.

Target,
I would be very offended by your comment–if I were a plank of wood. At least that plank is useful for something 🙂
Re: Barkley’s comment that we “need to go back and read the part about not judgin’ uttha people.” Yes, Chuck, let’s look at that, shall we? Matthew 7:1-5–“Judge not, that you be not judged. For with what judgment you judge, you will be judged; and with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you. And why do you look at the speck in your brother’s eye, but do not consider the plank in your own eye? Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me remove the speck from your eye’; and look, a plank is in your own eye? Hypocrite! First remove the plank from your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.”
See that, Chuck? We are to remove the speck from our brother’s eye. How do we do that? We judge between right and wrong (after we’ve cleaned up our own house first, that is). We don’t judge the person, we judge the lifestyle.
Ever notice how the people who claim to be experts about the Bible are the ones who have never read it themselves?

And doesn’t his opening comment about conservatives being “fake Christians”–isn’t he being judgmental? Methinks it might behoveth him to practice what he preaches.

Thanks for your comment.
If it’s what I think it is (sexual content) I already read that elsewhere and opted to refrain from posting that extra info on DefCon for obvious reasons.
It’s those who are steeped in such gross sins that are the first to tell others not to judge. There’s a reason for that . . . darkness hates the light.

Oh, it’s ok, you put the WARNING on there. I just was letting you know I read parts of the police report that was made public too.
