Sermon of the week: “Programs, Get Your Programs: Exposing the Flaws of the Fad-Driven Church” by Phil Johnson.

Your Wednesday sermon of the week is Programs, Get Your Programs: Exposing the Flaws of the Fad-Driven Church, by Phil Johnson. This is a great follow-up to last Wednesday’s sermon of the week (found here).

Those who hold dear to such fads as The Prayer of Jabez, the WWJD junk, the Left Behind craze, and those who adore the likes of Christianity Today, TBN, Jan Crouch, JI Packer, Tony Campolo, Brian McLaren, TD Jakes, George Barna, Ted Haggard, Joyce Meyer, Rick Warren, Bill Hybels, James Dobson, and the can’t-do-no-wrong, practically-walks-on-water evangelical favorite Billy Graham, may take issue with this message. But for the rest of us, it’s a breath of freash air to finally hear someone call a spade a spade.

  1. I’m almost half-way through the audio and I’m numb. I see so much truth in what Johnson is saying but part of me is so discouraged by the sad state that evangelicalism is in.

I need to listen to this audio a couple times to absorb it all.

    Thanks for posting it.

  2. Dear Joe:

If you think this one was good, I have another powerhouse from Phil Johnson coming next week for Wednesday’s sermon of the week. It is from the most recent Shepherds’ Conference in which Johnson deals with the potty mouth preachers of today’s American Churchianity and the vulgar porinification of the pulpit by so-called pastors. He takes on the likes of Mark Driscoll, Ed Young, and Triple X “Church.” Be sure to look for that one, next Wednesday here on DefCon.

    Dear Jay:

Phil Johnson mentions Packer in the sermon on this post . . . so you’ll have to listen to the whole thing to know what he said. How’s that for a cliff hanger?

Anyway, to whet your whistle, JI Packer is just one of the many signers of the heretical Evangelicals & Catholics Together (E.C.T.). You can see his name in this list of signers.

Anyone who would agree to work toward uniting the Bride of Christ with the apostate Roman Catholic harlot should not be followed or listened to, but exposed.

    Hope this helps.

  3. I just listened to this sermon. It was sad to have the evangelical church today likened to the catholic church in Martin Luthers time, but so true. I will listen to this again and looking forward to the next one
