  1. I was talking to my best friend today who happens to be a VERY devout mormon… I pointed out that had he not been born to mormon parrents, and raised mormon, he himself woud in all likelyhood NOT be a mormon. This is such a simple and logical question… How can he not see it? Any thoughts? I am trying to reveal to him the one true God of the Bible. He is a wonderful person, not deserving of Hell, How do I help save him?

  2. @truthseeker: You pray your brains out.

Then you pray your guts out.

Then, when there’s no more left, you pray again.

THEN, you show him, with gentleness, that He has been lied to. That the gospel has been added to, and strip it away piece by piece.

    With gentleness.

Mormons are difficult because they have mostly been deceived from birth. The deceit is so deep in their brains and hearts that they can’t see straight. But the Word of God pierces, even dividing bone from marrow. Your own logic and reasoning cannot help. Only the Word of God can unveil his eyes.

  3. Witnessing to people in cults can be very frustrating. Especially if they have been in it for years. I guess really all we can do is just tell them what the Bible says and depend on the Holy Spirit to do the rest.

I have been witnessing to a group of Jehovah’s Witnesses that come to visit my grandparents. I really don’t know what else to say to these people. I have found that I cannot open their eyes by myeself.

I am to the point now of telling them that according to Galatians they are cursed for spreading a false gospel and that I will be praying that God will open their eyes to the truth.

I can testify about how it takes God to open peoples eyes. I was caught up in some beliefs that when people spoke against them like they do on this site, I would say that they are just “dried up and dead”. I was all for the Lakeland “Revival”. What’s kind of funny to me is that is was the “dried up and dead” bunch that was praying that I would see the truth. God had to be the one to open my eyes.

So I guess it could be the same way with talking to people in cults. I have never talked to a Mormon though, but I think I could talk to these particular Jehovah’s Witnesses until I am blue in the face and it would not be fruitfull unless God opens their eyes.

Anyone have any suggestions about how long I should witness to the Jehovah’s Witnesses I have been speaking with?

  4. I was at Salt Lake city once for work, and I decided I’d take the temple-square-tour, since I like history, to see what kinds of wacky things people say and so on.

I spent most of the tour praying for the tourguides. After, we were, of course, encouraged to consider what we were told (the mormon gospel), and pray and ask God to reveal the truth to us.

I told the guides that I’d been praying the whole time we were walking and that God had revealed the most amazing things during our tour. Namely that God’s grace was amazing that it could ASSURE me that I was adopted and sealed by the Holy Spirit, through the Blood of Christ. And I asked if THEY had ever been shown this assurance. That they were, forever, sealed by God as His children. both of the guides got this look on their face like they’d been stricken by nausea.

Mormon teachings offer no assurances. Its all based on whether I do the right things for the right people. Its a rough business.

  5. Shane,
Hi. That is great you are sharing the gospel with the JW’s. Indeed they are very locked in their beliefs; all because of how they are indoctrinated where the Watchtower is the sole source of truth with anything outside of it being apostate.

Your question: Anyone have any suggestions about how long I should witness to the Jehovah’s Witnesses I have been speaking with? is a hard one. A while back, I was witnessing to one JW in particular for quite a while and it became evident after time he was not budging (at least as far as I could discern). Rather it became a ping-pong match where I would share truths about justification, salvation, etc., only to have him come back with his doctrine.

Or, he would say he believes what I wrote in one sentence only to contradict this in another. I share this because I eventually cut the tie and walked away. It seemed like I was sharing pearls only to have them trodden under foot.

Thus, it is my belief that at some point you have to shake the dust off your feet because this is the pattern we see in Scriptures. Paul would reason with people, but he wasn’t chasing after the ones who outright rejected his message. Same of course true with the Lord as well as the other apostles.

There also is verse about rejecting heretics after the 2nd admonition.

The net-net is that if if God is in it, and they have heard the truth, then in time the seed will grow and bear fruit. If not, then it either hit shallow soil or got plucked up by a bird.

  6. I have talked with these particular ones 2 or 3 times. I feel that I have spent enough time witnessing. It does feel like a ping-pong match with them. I can show them the errors in their NWT, the false prophecies of their organization, and they always come back with the “new light”. Seems like some of the big time evangelists and pastors in “mainline Christianity” use the “new light” excuse as well.

I have deffinately made it to the 2nd admonition with them.

What’s sad to me is my grandparents view of salvation and theirs has a lot in common. I think that is why they keep coming around.

Thanks for the reply brother Michael.

  7. Hi I posted about a week ago here, sorry for the delay…
So I talked to my Mormon friend and he has me just about convinced that Mormonism has it right! He knows the Bible alot better than I do, but I could not argue the points he made!

I, just like all of you, do not want to spend eternity in Hell. This is the most important thing there is! And if I pick the wrong religion, God will send me to eternal torture in Hell.

Part of me wonders why God would treat his creation this way… It doensn’t make much sense! But God can do what God wants I guess, LOL.

I just wish it were more easy to figure out I guess…

  8. Just remember that the devil knows the Bible better than any of us.

The gospel is that Jesus Christ forgives you all your sins, and because of that fact, you are made right with God.

There is nothing on your part that you need to do to add to that. Nothing. You couldn’t add to that if you wanted to.

Any religion that has people on the ladder to more and better righteousness, and that any religion that actually believes that God’s laws can be kept by us…is false.

Mormonisn is a false religion that revolves around…’you’.

True faith revolves around Christ and what He has done for the sinner.

The cross of Christ is the truth. It is where you were made right with God, for Jesus sake.

Mormons don’t even have a cross atop their building where they worship their false gods.

Take heed. Mormonism is not Christianity, and it is NOT the truth.

If you are truly concerned about your soul, you’ll flee from that false religion that believes that God was once a man.

    Ridiculous.

  9. Isnt Mormonism based on the same God? It is all about Jesus with the Mormons???

And Mormons also believe , “The gospel is that Jesus Christ forgives you all your sins, and because of that fact, you are made right with God.”

Is there really that much of a difference?

    I am so confused!

Everyone thinks that THEIR religion is right. What am I supposed to think?

  10. truthseeker,

The Mormans speak much of Jesus.

So do Muslims and Catholics, even Hare Krishna’s throw His name around.

The crux of it all is that it is NOT the Jesus of the Bible.

Why? The Jesus of the Bible is God.

You will find these cults and sects have one thing in common; they all deny the diety of Christ. They say, “He is just a man”.

JW’s dont believe Jesus is God, yet they say salvation from Him. [The OT tells us over and over that salvation is from the LORD but they deny that Jesus is Lord, go figure].

There is a real difference. Christianity, true biblical Christianity is about Jesus Christ, not another “prophet” and another “inspired book” (the book of Morman).

Christianty is the Triune God found in the Scripture alone.

Keep seeking and keep listening to truth found here.

  11. truthseeker,

I would love nothing more than to show you each and every reason why Mormonism is a false religious cult with no foundation in truth. For example, they teach that:

–God the Father was born to a mother and father in some other universe, and had to learn how to “become God.” They also teach that we will be a “God” like God. WRONG. God is God, and there is no other God but Him (Isaiah 44:6; Isaiah 45:21).
–Jesus Christ and Satan are brothers. WRONG. In fact, Lucifer (and all the other angels) was created by Jesus Christ (Nehemiah 9:6; Colossians 1:16).
–They think of “salvation” as everybody will go to some kind of glory, but “good Mormons” who get married and have lots of kids and pay their tithes and keep all kinds of other rules go to the highest glory (the “Celestial Kingdom). They also teach that Jesus’ blood paid for every sin that every person ever born would commit. Therefore, no one is going to Hell. WRONG. Salvation is this: We are born dirty, filthy sinners who are born enemies of God. We have no hope of ever making peace with God. But, for no other reason than the good pleasure of His will and His grace, He sent His Son to shed His blood on the cross to pay for the sins of all those who would accept that sacrifice. Anyone who rejects that sacrifice is condemned to spend eternity in fiery torment in Hell.

If you want answers about what Mormonism is really all about, then check out the categories “Mormonism” and “Mormonism’s Top 50” on the sidebar. There you will find many posts from all of the contributors here, including some whacky quotes from the founders of Mormonism (Joseph Smith, Brigham Young, etc).

And, as Matthew Johnston and oldadam said, it’s not about “the right religion.” It’s about worshipping the true God. And Mormons don’t. Please, for the sake of your eternal soul, stay away from them. For they preach a different gospel. And, as the apostle Paul said, “If we, or an angel from Heaven, preach any other gospel than that which you have received, let him be accursed” (Galatians 1:8).

  12. truthseeker, as a long time follower of Jesus Christ, and as one who has Mormon friends as well, I encourage you to take heed to the above comment by fourpointer. He is correct (as are theoldadam and Matthew Johnson).

If it is truth that you seek, God has provided it for you in His word, the Bible. I enourage you to read it, study it. Then read it again. And again. As you grow in your understanding of it, you will learn who God Almighty is, who Jesus is (not who people claim He is), what His personality and attributes are, what He requires of you, how He has provided eternal life, what repentance is, what love is. It’s all there. Everything you seek is all there. God has provided it for you. You don’t need any man’s books to tell you what it says. Read it for yourself. God will not steer you wrong. He loves you and wants you to know His truth that He has provided for you in His word.

  13. The thing about the “true” Mormons that distinguish them from others is that they have read the Book of Mormon and asked God whether it is true and if Joseph Smith was a true prophet. God has answered them in the affirmative (or so they think).

Trying to convert one of these people would be like trying to convert Paul away from Christianity after Jesus Christ had spoken to him.

Interestingly, I have not been able to find an account of anyone who has read the Book of Mormon, asked God if it is true and if Joseph Smith was a true prophet and then received a negative answer. Could someone help me here?
