One of our problems today is that we no longer do our own thinking. Newspapers do it for us, the people interviewed on Radio and Television do it for us, and we sit back and listen. That is one of the manifestations of the breakdown of self-discipline. We must learn to discipline our minds!

So true.
We fill ourselves on a daily diet of media hype, and then we wonder why we struggle to believe the word of God.
Garbage in, garbage out.
To cleanse our ways, we need to heed God’s word,
Psalm 119v9.
God bless.

This quote is SO true and it happens all the time. Hardly anyone does any critical thinking any more. Rather, so many accept as truth everything they see on TV or read in the newspapers. Never testing any of it, never doing due diligence, rather believing what they see/hear/read because they saw it/heard it with their own eyes/ears.
Then, when someone comes along and presents an opposite case, they are ridiculed, mocked and labeled conspiratorial for suggesting something contrary to what “everyone” knows to be truth. You see this all the time on Faux (i.e. Fox) news, CNN and all the rest. They are experts at it as they turn people into mindless lemmings as they advance the globalist agenda.
Check out this video by Francis Shaeffer speaking to the manipulation of media made many years ago showing this truth. And OH how much worse it is today! But not in America, right?

Very true! I know so many people who refuse to listen to the truth because it is contrary to what they heard. We used to tell our children, when they were young and we watched a lot of tv, that just because they saw it on tv didn’t make it true! They seemed to think that if they saw it then it really happened. That is the same way with people today…gullible enough to believe anything they see and hear without checking it out!

Ditto to the above. And the obvious connection is that those in such a programmed society, when stepping through the doors of a church, or into a “Christian” bookstore, or into a home bible study, too gullibly believe what they are taught, without checking it like the Bereans did according to the Scriptures. And they don’t assess whether what is preached or taught is true to the whole of Scripture, they just accept that it is.
brother Michael, your statement: “Hardly anyone does any critical thinking any more.”, I find to be pretty much the norm for most Christians I know. Is it any wonder why so many fall so easily to the wolves out there? But since they don’t want to think of themselves as gullible or stupid, their defense of their chosen spiritual leader is most often in the form of mere repetition of what they have heard him (or their religious group) say, since, once again, they still don’t think for themselves. So attempts to argue the truth with them is often a futile exercise because, if they’re not thinking for themselves, there is no common ground of logic and reasoning to work with. They have become willfully programmed followers of another, who they have allowed to do the thinking for them. Their foundation of belief is what they have been told to believe by others. Pretty bizarre in an Orwellian sort of way.

Minor point: It’s “Martyn” with a “y,” not “Martin” with an “i.”
