Billy Graham’s Gospel

Many people have benefited from Billy Graham and many of those never examined what Graham has been teaching these many decades. We read in the Word of God this brutal judgment:

I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting him who called you in the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel— not that there is another one, but there are some who trouble you and want to distort the gospel of Christ.  But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach to you a gospel contrary to the one we preached to you, let him be accursed.  As we have said before, so now I say again: If anyone is preaching to you a gospel contrary to the one you received, let him be accursed.

    Allow me to add this, I noticed you noted the law is not part of the gospel {meaning ‘good news’}. Earlier today, I saw an instagram pic of a well known evangelist who recently moved to Iowa, he was outside the ‘abortuary’ as he likes to call it with his pastor. They had a child holding up a sign facing the street, the sign stated, ‘babies are murdered here’. I ask, where is the gospel in this? They present the ‘law’, i.e., thou shall not murder, but there’s no gospel. I scratch my head and wonder how is this called evangelism and how is it worthy of asking for donated $$?

    Sorry for getting a bit off topic, your statement brought this to the forefront….I agree with you btw.

  4. It’s far easier to condemn people with the law, any law. It’s far more difficult to tell people that Christ saves sinners, therefore repent and believe on Him. We have to mention Him in the gospel; we can avoid that with the law. This is why even Christians need to hear the gospel – we get sidetracked by our flesh and fail to stay on mission.

  5. Amen Manfred. It’s a blessing to see brethren such as yourself standing firm. I know you’ve faced some difficult trials along the way and God has seen you through them. The trials will not end as long as we are in this earthly tent!
    It’s easy for self-righteousness to overtake and cause a ‘Pharisee-type’ attitude, which is what I saw on display earlier. Pointing people to their sins and not speaking of Christ only drives them away and gives them a great sense of disdain for ‘Christians’.

To state the Ten Commandments to people who have been programmed their whole life to believe that the baby within them is a nonperson, or a clump of jelly or an extension of their person (like a zit) is fruitless. The Gospel is everything! We must always present the Gospel, unpainted, undiluted and unvarnished or our words will be meaningless and without power. These poor deceived souls need to know about Christ Jesus…not clever cliches and fancy attention getting signs.

  11. Thanks for the link! I’ve read Toplady’s assessment – have his book on that subject in my library. The Jesuits are the special forces of the papist religion and also cooked up the notion of a future, individual anti-christ in order to deflect growing consensus that the papacy (or the then-current pope) was anti-christ. Rome rejoiced when Arminianism was proclaimed by “protestants.”

  12. Hey Manfred and Lynn, do you think the antichrist is a system rather than a person? I have believed this for some time now. It doesn’t make sense to me that the whole world would follow after a man when everyone is being programmed to believe in self and worship self. Your thoughts?

  13. Paul – I think the Bible shows anti-christ to be a system comprised of the devil and the people of the world. All and anyone who denies Jesus came in the flesh are of anti-christ. Since no one can say Jesus is Lord except by the Spirit, none can truly believe the deity and man-hood of Jesus apart from the Spirit.

  15. Yeah, exactly. It seems very simple when you think about it outside of all the myriads of different views. Antichrist means either against Christ or instead of Christ. Those who are not saved are against Christ, serving self (instead of Christ), and those who are saved serve Christ and none other. Thanks Manfred.

  17. “In 1826, Dr. Samuel Maitland (librarian for the Archbishop of Canterbury) wrote a book attacking the Reformation. In it he used the Jesuit Francisco Ribera’s NEW interpretation of Daniel 9:27 in order to defend the Papacy.
    In the 1830’s two movements erupted that would play an important part in the unfolding mystery. One was the “Oxford Movement”. In 1850 John Henry Newman wrote his Letter on Anglican Difficulties. In that letter he revealed that the “Oxford Movement” of which he was a part, had as its goal to finally absorb “the various English denominations and parties” back into the Church of Rome. After publishing a pamphlet endorsing the Jesuit view of Daniel 9:27, Newman joined the Catholic Church and eventually became a Cardinal.
    At about the same time, there appeared a Scottish Presbyterian minister named Edward Irving (the acknowledged forerunner of both the Pentecostal and Charismatic Movements). Irving was pastoring the huge Chalcedonian Chapel in London. He had readily accepted the Jesuit prophetic teachings on Daniel 9:27 proposed by Maitland, and first concocted by the Jesuits Bellarmine and Ribera. Irving began to teach the unique idea of a two-phase return of Christ, the first phase being a secret rapture prior to the rise of the Antichrist. It is rumored that Irving received this prophetic “revelation” when it was given in a vision to a young Scottish girl named Margaret McDonald. McDonald’s prophetic revelation vision is eerily similar to the way that Ignatius Loyola received his vision of warfare against the Protestants. The Irvingites were the forerunners of the modern Charismatic wing of Arminianism, and Irving was ex-communicated from the Presbyterian Church for his aberrant teachings (Strachan, George, The Pentecostal Theology of Edward Irving, Hendrickson Publishers, 1973, pg. 13). Irving subsequently formed his own church called the Catholic Apostolic Church and began by ordaining twelve apostles on November 7th, 1832. Irving’s prophetic teachings on the imminent return of the Lord gave his preaching immediacy and caused people to ignore scriptural “problems” for the sake of “last day’s unity”.The second movement that burgeoned at the time was called the “Plymouth Brethren” movement.
    One of the leaders of the Plymouth Brethren in Plymouth England was a lawyer named John Nelson Darby. J.N. Darby became the “Father of Dispensationalism”, and used the teachings on Daniel 9 by the Jesuits Ribera and Bellarmine as the foundation of his Pre-tribulational rapture teaching. Darby is a great subject in our study of that poison in the well. Although Darby taught many great things (he insisted on the infallibility of the Bible, and voiced his opposition to the Catholic Church as well as the formalism and manipulation in the Protestant Churches), he had consumed the Jesuit bait, and in turn, he became the bait that would eventually ensnare most of the “Christian” world. Darby visited America 6 times in the late 1800’s and by the close of that century, most of the denominations had imbibed from the same poisonous Jesuit well. By 1909, Arminianism and Darbyism had infiltrated most of the denominations in America.”

  18. Whew…there’s a steak to chew on. Thanks Lynn for the information. I truly believe that there’s sooo much we believe today that the early church didn’t. I think we as the church, need to start from the hub, which is the absolute sovereignty of God and work outwards. It seems when man deviates from this truth, he runs amuck pretty quickly.
