Quotes (412)

ryle.jpg What could an unsanctified man do in Heaven, if by any chance he got there? . . . No man can possibly be happy in a place where he is not in his element, and where all around him is not congenial to his tastes, habits, and character. When an eagle is happy in an iron cage, when a sheep is happy in the water, when an owl is happy in the blaze of the noonday sun, when a fish is happy on the dry land—then, and not till then, will I admit that the unsanctified man could be happy in Heaven.

– J.C. Ryle

  1. Kind of shoots down the ” carnal Christian ” theory — the notion many subsribe to — that a person can ‘ believe ‘ ( for at least a moment ) and then turn back to his old ways , no change , no repentance , no desire for God , and somehow he will be saved. It’s as if he went through the christian drive- through and ordered some salvation’ to go ‘
” Yes , I’ll have some eternal life to go, please. ”
” Would you care for some sanctification to go with it ?”
“Nope. Just the salvation. It’s still free, isn’t it? ”
” Yes, it is…… please drive up ”
    ” I’m kind of in a hurry, too ……. ”
