For this Wednesday’s sermon of the week you will not receive the usual one sermon, but two! In honor of Resurrection Sunday I have chosen to post the following two powerful messages by C.J. Mahaney on Jesus’ suffering and resurrection.

European,
We do not celebrate Easter, which as you rightly state is a pagan ritual celebration of Ishtar. However, we also do not celebrate the Passover which was given specifically to the Jews alone for the purpose of remembering their escape from Egypt and the passing over of the death angel. True believers of the Lord Jesus Christ do not fall under the Old Covenant and are nowhere commanded to celebrate either.
What we do remember is Resurrection Sunday which in our particular ministry we bring up not just in March or April, but is a lynchpin in the direction of every ministry. As the apostle Paul stated in 1 Corinthians 15, “If in this life only we have hope, we are of all men most miserable.” Every time we gather to worship we are celebrating the resurrection of our risen Lord Jesus Christ, the God of heaven and earth. Every time we partake of communion, we do so until He returns reminding us not just of His first advent and death, burial and resurrection, but it also reminds us that He is coming again in the clouds of glory. Even so, come quickly, Lord Jesus!

DP,
I thank the Lord our God that we – the good folk at Grace Family Baptist Church – stand with you. Your explanation is spot on, putting daylight between the culture and the church, spotlighting the Lord and His sacrifice for His elect.
Indeed, until He comes again, let us spur one another on to proclaim His death and celebrate His resurrection – for the glory of God.
In His grip,
