I heard this for the first time this mornnig on my way to work. If I had been drinking coffee I would have spit it up all over the dash of my car. MacArthur has each point of this sermon backwards! You DO NOT insure that you die in your sin by being self-righteous, by being worldly, ignorant, or any other behavior. Those are the effects of sin and it is unforgiven sin that insures people who are dead in their sins die in that state and are judged and sent to hell. Mac puts the effect as the cause until he get starts alking about unbelief. Yet when he gets to that point, he sounds more like an Arminian, trying to convince people to summon up faith that the Calvinist he is know to be.
And then it gets really bad. Mac asked the question – What does one needs to believe in order to be saved? And his answer was so long and convoluted and covered such a wide range of theological issues that make his statement defective on the face of it! He thinks a detailed knowledge of the trinity, for example, is required for salvation. This is hogwash! For one who is saved and growing in grace and knowledge to be willfully ignorant of the trinity is bad – but such knowledge is NOT part of the gospel.
Why this was posted I do not know. Why anyone thinks it’s a good message I do not know. But people need to be warned: this sermon is mostly a dangerous lie.
