Nope! God controls all of it! I am so thankful for that because if I controlled it I would lose it!

Salvation belongs to the Lord.
Today as I’m getting ready to gather with other believers in Church I see the songs we are singing today and the first song is “I have decided to follow Jesus” Yuck.
I have decided to follow Jesus;
I have decided to follow Jesus;
I have decided to follow Jesus;
No turning back, no turning back.

John 1:12-13–But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
Question: How does one become a child of God?
Answer: Christ gives you that right when you receive Him and believe on His name.
Question: How does one receive Christ and believe on His name?
Answer: Not by who you’re born to. Not by the will of your flesh. Not by your own will. But BY GOD.

I know the feeling about that song “I Have Decided to Follow Jesus”. We don’t much care for it either since it wasn’t our decision. Thankfully, the Lord rescued us from ourselves and our hatred of Him! Praise the Lord for His grace and mercy not our decisions!

fp – John 1:12-13 is ’bout my favorite passage displaying the doctrine of election. Praise God for His mercy and grace towards His enemies!
In His grip because mine is palsied.
It’s like a magic show – “As I count to three…”
As to the question at the top: Man had no part to play in his physical birth, why would he think he has any more to do with his spiritual birth? I think this is one reason the Lord used this metaphor with Nicodemus, just a few pages beyond John 1:12-13.

But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness. I Timothy 6:11
And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God. Luke 9:62
No offense to PapaPatriot, but I don’t read the hymn, “I have decided” as being about the New Birth. I think it is about true regenerated believers deciding to follow Jesus more and more closely, as they grow in faith. I know that’s controversial, but there are clear by Bible commands for true believers to choose to follow Jesus, and to do it willingly. The fact that they are unable to do so apart from the power of the Holy Spirit and the grace of God does not detract from the fact that each true Christian is commanded to choose, to follow, to strive, and to make a very real effort never to turn back.
