Your sermon of the week is a fantastic one. Grab a pen and paper because you will be taking copious notes (I had to keep pulling the car over to write). I bring you this Thursday’s sermon by John MacArthur entitled The Atonement: Real or Potential?
This is a great message. The only disappointment I had was that in this 30 minute sermon MacArthur did not (in my opinion) spend enough time dealing with the arguments against limited atonement. For another great sermon on limited atonement in which the opposing arguments are dealt with in greater depth, check out the sermon Grace Secured: Limited Atonement found on this post.
MacArthur sums up the universalist atonement proponent’s argument perfectly when he says those who reject limited atonement believe that Jesus died for everybody in general, and no one in particular.
Not much of a sermon.
More like a Bible study.

Would like to ask for help. One of my friends writes to someone she know in prison in Florida. He was sentenced to 25 years, and has served 7 hes now 25 so he’ll be 43 when he gets out unless they reduce his sentence.
I dont know a lot about him except that my friend is one of the few who writes him consistently, his mother is a Jehovahs Witness and during his time so far hes been involved in fights with other prisoners who have tried to rape him, so he’s been put in the hole (solitary confinement) before because of that (fighting back etc..)
I would like to ask you what would be a good book to send to him? I dont believe he is a Christian. Thanks for your help.:)

CPCIV,
I have a friend who has been in Texas prisons for 7 years. I write to him regularly. In Texas, inmates may not receive books from outside unless it is shipped directly from the store or delivered by the prison chaplain. I sent my friend a book one time (In Pursuit of Holiness) and the prison destroyed it.
Make sure you understand the rules before you send something.
What would you expect would benefit him, if he is not regenerate? I know of no good book for such a situation aside from the Bible. If he claims Christ, there are myriad good books that have been used of God to convict man into seeing his sin and crying out for repentance.
