“Do Something” – Charles Spurgeon

spurgeon_chairAs we watch our world plunge further and further into sinful and evil debauchery, there is only one thing that can be done to save it, preach the gospel! Yet there are far too many “churches” that simply refuse to obey the command of Christ to do this. So, I commend Christians to read the quote by Spurgeon and plead with you, “Do something!”

“Brethren, do something; do something, do something! While societies and unions make constitutions, let us win souls. I pray you, be men of action all of you. Get to work and quit yourselves like men. Old Suvarov’s idea of war is mine: `Forward and strike! No theory! Attack! Form a column! Charge bayonets! Plunge into the center of the enemy! Our one aim is to win souls; and this we are not to talk about, but do in the power of God!'” – Charles Spurgeon

  1. Indeed. Think of all the ills in our culture (the recent murders being just one). There’s homosexual ‘marriage,’ creature/creation-worship through environmentalism, legalized theft through excessive taxation for the sole purpose of redistribution to the unworthy poor, flagrant and rampant cheating in schools, road rage, lying all over the place, rebellion throughout all strata in the workplace, citizenry, schools, and churches, excessive lewdness and coarseness, sexually-tinged communication, self-worship, man-centered worship, not reverencing the Lord’s holy name, violating the Christian sabboth, disobedient children, theft, covetousness, feet which are swift to shed blood, and the like.

Government was designed and ordained of God to protect people who abide by its laws, and to “not bear the sword in vain” for those who do violate them. Our governments (federal, state, and local) have miserably failed to carry-out their God-sanctioned duties, and we (the obedient citizenry) are reaping the fruits thereof. Yet, the “one thing needful” and the one thing which will cure the ills of this sin-polluted planet is the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Until men, women, and children are born again, by the Spirit, the slippery-slope and headlong plunge toward Gomarrah will continue….and it will get even worse. The way the gospel is presented today; however, is so watered-down, full of man-centeredness, a way to ‘get’ saved, and for the most part, ineffective. There’s rarely mention of an offended, three-times-holy God. There’s rarely any mention of a controversy between the sinner and his Maker. There’s little mention of the need for reconciliation. There’s little thought given to the sinner being a God-hater who is under wrath. There’s rarely any attention given to the fact that man is dead in his sin, and is utterly incapable of saving himself. The gospel ‘pill’ has had all the medicine taken out of it. Where are the Bible-preaching churches? Where are the Bible-preaching Pastors? Where are the Bible-living, Bible-telling, Bible-preaching Christians?

May God have grace upon us.

  2. I’m afraid that the end of times is coming at us quicker than any of us believe. This must be our ‘battle plan’ – to save as many souls as possible while we still can. Great quote, thank you for posting it.
